Omer Sarfraz Cheema (born 24 July 1969) is a Pakistani politician who has been a founding member of the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf party.
He served as the Governor of Punjab for a little over a month,from 3 April 2022 till 10 May 2022. On recommendation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif he was removed as Governor and ceased to hold office on 10 May 2024. [1]
Cheema was replaced by Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman on 30 May 2022,with approval from the President of Pakistan. [2]
Cheema was born on July 24,1969,in Wazirabad,Punjab and belongs to a Jat Family. He has studied at Saint Anthony's School Lahore. He did his graduation from Government College University Lahore. [3]
He has been the founding member of PTI.
On 3 April 2022,Cheema was appointed as the Governor of Punjab by Imran Khan after the removal of Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar. [4] [5]
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sent a summary for the removal of the Governor of Punjab to President Arif Alvi, [6] The president approved the summary and Cheema was removed from office on 10 May 2022. [7] [8]
Cheema was inducted into the cabinet of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as the Punjab Chief Minister's advisor on information on 6 August 2022 and as advisor on Home and Prisons from 13 October 2022. He ceased to hold both offices on 14 January 2023. [9] [10]
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is a political party in Pakistan established in 1996 by Pakistani cricketer and politician Imran Khan,who served as the country's prime minister from 2018 to 2022. Chaudhry Parvez Elahi Warraich commonly referred to as Pervaiz Elahi is a Pakistani politician who is the former Chief Minister of Punjab. He was a member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab from August 2018 till January 2023,when he,as chief minister,dissolved the assembly. In 2023,he left the Pakistan Muslim League (Q) and joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) along with his son,Moonis Elahi,and 10 other former PML(Q) MPAs over political rifts with the party president and cousin,Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. He was appointed president of the PTI. He was the former president of the Punjab Division of the PML(Q).
Chaudhary Aitzaz Ahsan is a Pakistani politician and lawyer. He served two times as the Leader of the House in the Senate of Pakistan from 1994 to 1997 and again from 2012 to 2015. He also served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate. He was elected a member of the Senate of Pakistan from Punjab in 1994. His tenure ended in March 2018.

The first direct elections held in Pakistan after independence were for the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab between 10–20 March 1951. He was elected as a Member of Legislative Assembly in 1951. He was again elected in the 1962 and 1964 Provincial Assembly elections in Pakistan. He remained Member National Assembly of Pakistan from 1985-1999. He was also member of Mājlis-e-ShūrāPākistān,The Federal Council from 1982-1984.
Rana Sanaullah Khan is a Pakistani lawyer and politician who is currently serving as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs since April 2024. Previously,he was served as the 39th Interior Minister of Pakistan. He had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from August 2018 till August 2023. He is a senior member of PML-N and the President of PML-N in Punjab province since 4 May 2019. Mian Muhammad Hamza Shahbaz is a Pakistani politician,businessman,and the eldest son of current Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab from September 2018 to April 2022,and resumed this role on 20 October 2022 and continued until the dissolution of the assembly. He briefly held the position of Chief Minister of Punjab from 30 April 2022 to 2 May 2022. His tenure as a member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab spanned from August 2018 to January 2023. Prior to this,he was a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from June 2008 to May 2018.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif is a Pakistani politician,currently serving as the 20th Chief Minister of Punjab,in office since 26 February 2024. She is the daughter of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif and her initial involvement in public life was through her family’s philanthropic organisations. The constitutional crisis in Pakistan's Punjab province began on 28 March 2022,when Usman Buzdar tendered his resignation as Chief Minister at the request of Prime Minister Imran Khan and nominated former Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to replace him. Lettergate is an American-Pakistani political affair set off by a conversation at a farewell lunch for Asad Majeed Khan,the then-Pakistani ambassador to the United States,which took place on 7 March 2022 at Khan's official residence,also known as Pakistan House. A diplomatic telegram sent by Ambassador Khan to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was based on the notes taken by the note-taker,who was from the embassy of Pakistan based in Washington,D.C. The telegram allegedly stated that in the course of the meeting the United States had expressed a desire to the government of Pakistan for prime minister Imran Khan to be removed from office because of his refusal to abandon his neutral stance on the war between Russia and Ukraine and back the Ukrainians,with a promise of warmer relations if his removal occurred,and threatening isolation if it did not. The lunch was attended by US officials including then US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu and Deputy Assistant Secretary Lesslie Viguerie. The Pakistani diplomats attending the lunch meeting included Deputy Chief of Mission Syed Naveed Bokhari and the defence attaché.
Muhammad Aun Saqlain Chaudhry is a Pakistani politician who was an advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif on tourism and sports from April 2022 to August 2023.
Provincial elections were held in the Pakistani province of Punjab on 8 February 2024 to elect a new provincial legislature. On 5 August 2023,the results of the 2023 digital census were approved by the Council of Common Interests headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Therefore,elections have been delayed for several months,as new delimitations will be published on 14 December 2023,as announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The 2022–2023 Pakistan political unrest was a series of political crises after the ousting of former prime minister Imran Khan through a no-confidence motion in April 2022. The crises began in 2022 when the opposition joined hands and submitted a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan's government in the National Assembly. Prime Minister Imran Khan urged the Pakistani establishment not to stay neutral and play its role to save his government and not let historical rival politicians with alleged corruption charges take over,but the establishment refused.
Muhammad Aurangzeb is a Pakistani banker who currently serving as the Minister of Finance for Pakistan since 11 March 2024. He previously served as the chief executive officer (CEO) and president of Habib Bank Limited from February 2018 to March 2024.
Ahad Khan Cheema is a retired Pakistani bureaucrat who is the current Federal Minister of Economic Affairs,appointed on 11 March 2024. Previously,he has served as a chief executive officer (CEO) of the Quaid-e-Azam Thermal Power Company and director-general of the Lahore Development Authority. In 2018,the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Cheema on charges related to irregularities in the Ashiana Housing Scheme project during his time as chairman of the LDA. The investigation also involved former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's principal secretary Fawad Hassan Fawad and Shehbaz Sharif. Cheema was released on bail in 2021 after spending three years in jail and was acquitted of all charges by the NAB in 2023. He took retirement from civil service in January 2023.
