Gary Abraham (born 8 January 1959) is an English former competitive swimmer.

Swimming career

Abraham represented Great Britain in the Olympics and FINA world championships, as well as England in the Commonwealth games, during the 1970s and early 1980s. Abraham was an Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games medallist. As a 17-year-old, Abraham represented Great Britain at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec. He competed in the 100-metre backstroke, and swam the backstroke leg for the British team in the preliminary heats of the men's 4x100-metre medley relay.

Abraham represented England at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, winning two silver medals in the 100-metre backstroke and the 4x100-metre medley relay. [1] [2] At the ASA National British Championships he won the 100 metres backstroke title six times (1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1981) and the 200 metres backstroke title in 1978. [3] [4] [5] [6]

At the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, he earned a bronze medal by swimming the backstroke leg for the third-place British team in the 4×100-metre medley relay. [7] He was the first swimmer to utilise the rule permitting swimmers to swim 15 metres underwater at the start of certain events.

Abraham retired from competitive swimming in 1983. He currently coaches at Eastleigh Swimming Club.

Winning the bronze medal at the 1986 World Aquatics Championships, Jameson's career in the pool culminated in winning the bronze medal in the 1988 Summer Olympics, his second and final Olympic Games.

Colin Cunningham is an English former freestyle and backstroke swimmer.

Neil Cochran is a Scottish former competitive swimmer who represented Great Britain in the Olympics, European championships and World University Games, and swam for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games, during the 1980s. Cochran competed in medley and freestyle swimming events.

Audrey Lacroix is a retired Canadian competitive swimmer from Montreal, Quebec. She is the Canadian record-holder in the 200-metre butterfly. She is a former world record-holder in the short-course 4x100-metre medley relay along with teammates Katy Murdoch, Annamay Pierse and Victoria Poon. She was a member of the Canadian team that finished 8th in the 4x100-metre freestyle relay and in 7th place in the 4x100-metre medley relay at the 2008 Summer Olympics. She won the gold medal in 200-metre butterfly at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. and a bronze in the women's 4x100-metre medley relay. She also swam in the 100-metre butterfly final, finishing seventh with a time of 58.78.

Jemma Louise Lowe is a former British international butterfly swimmer and British record holder. She has competed for Wales in the Commonwealth Games, and was a member of Great Britain's 2008 and 2012 Olympic teams.

Jonathan Richard Maden is a male English former competitive swimmer who specialised in breaststroke events.

Martin Harris is an English former International competitive swimmer and backstroke specialist.

Kelly Stefanyshyn is a Canadian competitive swimmer and backstroke specialist who represented her native country at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Stefanyshyn was a member of Canada's sixth-place team in the women's 4x100-metre medley relay. Individually, she also finished eighth in the women's 200-metre backstroke, and competed in the semifinals of the 100-metre backstroke.

Margaret Mary Kelly, MBE, later known by her married name Margaret Hohmann, is an English former competitive swimmer who represented Great Britain in the Olympics and FINA world championships, and competed for England in the Commonwealth Games.

Trevor Martin Smith is a former English competitive swimmer who represented Great Britain in two Olympic Games, FINA world championships (1978) and European championships (1977), and swam for England in the 1978 Commonwealth Games. Smith was an Olympic bronze medallist and won six medals in major international swimming championships as a member of British or English teams. He also played American football - Place Kicker while a student-athlete at the University of Arkansas.

Brian Brinkley is an English former competitive swimmer who represented Great Britain in the Olympic Games, FINA world championships and European championships, and England in the Commonwealth Games, during the 1970s. Georgia Beth Davies is a British competition swimmer who has represented Great Britain in the Olympic Games and European championships, and swam for Wales in the Commonwealth Games. She has won gold in the Commonwealth Games and European Championships. She currently represents Energy Standard in the International Swimming League.

Susannah Claire "Suki" Brownsdon is an English former competitive swimmer who won a silver medal in the women's 100-metre breaststroke at the 1981 European Championships, and represented Great Britain at four consecutive Olympic Games, with her best results being sixth place in the 100-metre breaststroke final in 1980 and seventh place in the 200-metre breaststroke final in 1984. She also represented England at three Commonwealth Games, winning a total of five medals.
