Georgetown is a village in the Sirhowy Valley in Blaenau Gwent. It belongs in the ward of Georgetown. [1]
It is located 0.59 miles (0.95 km) south of Tredegar and 1.42 miles (2.29 km) west of Ebbw Vale. It is 16.17 miles (26.02 km) north of Newport. The A4048 runs near to the village. The population of the ward is 3,410 which represents the whole Georgetown ward. [1]
Facilities in Georgetown include a Community Centre, [2] a Gospel Hall, a Methodist church, a congressional Church, Rhyd Hall pub, [3] a Chinese restaurant, and a small supermarket. The area is covered by Georgetown Primary School [4] and Tredegar Comprehensive School. The Tredegar Leisure Centre is nearby as well as the World War I memorial site. [5] The Sirhowy River runs adjacent to the village.
In 2019 the town received National Lottery Charitable funding for a not-for-profit outlet providing low income families in the community with re-purposed clothing, toiletries, and toys worth £8,780. [6]
The village is a 12-minute walk, and 0.6 miles (0.97 km) from Tredegar where Tredegar bus station offers services to Ebbw Vale Town railway station as well as buses to Newport, and local villages. [7]

Tredegar is a town and community situated on the banks of the Sirhowy River in the county borough of Blaenau Gwent, in the southeast of Wales. Within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire, it became an early centre of the Industrial Revolution in Wales. The historic Tredegar Iron Works in Richmond, Virginia, United States was named in honour of the town. The relevant wards collectively listed the town's population as 15,103 in the UK 2011 census.

Ebbw Vale Parkway railway station is a station on the Ebbw Valley Railway in Wales. The station opened on 6 February 2008 when services to and from Cardiff Central commenced after 46 years of being a freight-only line. A northwards extension of the line to a new terminus at Ebbw Vale Town opened on 17 May 2015, which accounts for the drop in usage in 2015–16. A direct service to Newport was expected to commence in 2018 following double-tracking and re-signalling works between Aberbeeg and Crosskeys, but this has now been pushed back to 2021.

The Sirhowy Valley is an industrialised valley in the eastern part of the Valleys region of Wales. It is named from the Sirhowy River which runs through it. Its upper reaches are occupied by the town of Tredegar within the unitary area of Blaenau Gwent. The valley initially heads south-southeast between the ridges of Cefn Manmoel to the east and Mynydd Bedwellte to the west before turning to a more southerly direction. Its central section is one of the least populated of the Welsh coalfield valleys. The valley enters the unitary area of Caerphilly which contains the towns of Blackwood and Pontllanfraith. It then turns east and joins the valley of the Ebbw River, Ebbw Vale at Crosskeys.

Ynysddu is a small village and community in the Sirhowy valley of south-east Wales. It is part of the district of Caerphilly within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire. It lies btween to Cwmfelinfach and Wyllie, 4.3 miles (6.9 km) north of the town of Risca and 4 miles (6.4 km) south of the market town of Blackwood. It is about 10 minutes by road from the M4 motorway and 20 minutes from the Second Severn Crossing. The population in 2008 was 2,905, increasing to 3,948 at the 2011 Census.
Trefil is a small village in the county borough of Blaenau Gwent, south Wales. It lies at the top of the Sirhowy Valley, near to Brecon Beacons National Park. It is three miles northwest of Tredegar. With one public house, The Top House, serving homemade food and drinks to local visitors.
Ebbw Vale Steelworks was an integrated steel mill located in Ebbw Vale, South Wales. Developed from 1790, by the late 1930s it had become the largest steel mill in Europe. Nationalized after World War II, as the steel industry changed to bulk handling, iron and steel making was ceased in the 1970s, as the site was redeveloped as a specialised tinplate works. Closed by Corus in 2002, the site is being redeveloped in a joint-partnership between Blaenau Gwent Council and the Welsh Government.
