Illinois Route 116 is a 176.07-mile-long (283.36 km) cross-state rural state highway that runs from U.S. Route 34 by Gladstone east to the intersection of US 45 and Old US 45, on the north side of Ashkum.

The Indian Ford Bridge was one of nine metal highway bridges in Fulton County, Illinois listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This particular one was located along County Highway 20 as spans the Spoon River, 1.5 miles (2.4 km) southwest of London Mills. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 29, 1980, along with the eight other bridges, as one of the "Metal Highway Bridges of Fulton County." Some of the other bridges included London Mill's only other Registered Historic Place, the now demolished London Mills Bridge. Other demolished bridges include the Elrod Bridge, Duncan Mills Bridge and Buckeye Bridge.

Middlegrove is an unincorporated community in Fulton County, Illinois, United States. Middlegrove is located on Illinois Route 116 west of Farmington. Originally a town founded by the coal miners of the area, Middlegrove's village center is an old school house that documents some of the town's history. One notable picture is of Abraham Lincoln when he was campaigning for state senator. The village of Middlegrove remained a part of the miner's support with a small hotel until the 1900s, a restaurant until the 1990s, and a bar. When the local mining operations were halted around the turn of the 21st century, the village was generally forgotten, but continues to survive today.

The Prairieland Conference is a high school conference in western central Illinois. The conference participates in athletics and activities in the Illinois High School Association. The conference comprises small public high schools with enrollments between 50 and 400 students in portions of Fulton, Knox, Mason, McDonough, Peoria, Schuyler, and Warren counties.
