Gira Angola aka Segundona is the 2nd division of Angolan football (soccer). It is organized by the Angolan Football Federation and gives access to Angola's top tier football division Girabola.

Angola country in Africa

Angola, officially the Republic of Angola, is a west-coast country of south-central Africa. It is the seventh-largest country in Africa, bordered by Namibia to the south, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, Zambia to the east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Angola has an exclave province, the province of Cabinda that borders the Republic of the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The capital and largest city of Angola is Luanda.

Angolan Football Federation

The Angolan Football Federation is the governing body of football in Angola. It was founded in 1979, and affiliated to FIFA and to CAF in 1980. It organizes the national football league Girabola and the national team.

Girabola association football league

Girabola, or Campeonato Nacional de Futebol em Séniores Masculinos, is the top division of Angolan football. It is organized by the Angolan Football Federation.

History

In 1995, the competition's first edition was played. It was contested by 18 teams divided in three groups of six teams each. Clubs from all provinces of the country disputed the competition. In 2009 the competition was again played by eighteen clubs and officially named as Gira Angola.

From the 2011 edition on, the winners of the series played a round robin tournament to determine the league champion.

S.L. Benfica (Lubango) Angolan football club based in Lubango

Sport Lubango e Benfica, formerly Sport Nova Lisboa e Benfica and best known as Benfica do Lubango, is an Angolan football club based in Lubango. They play their home games at the Estádio Nossa Senhora do Monte.

Domant FC

Domant Futebol Clube de Bula Atumba is an Angolan sports club from the village of Bula Atumba, in the northern province of Bengo. The team currently plays in the Gira Angola and is based in the province's capital city of Caxito.
