Oakey's triumphant return to GU – following the huge international success of his debut mix – was equally well received. This outing came during his 2-year reign at the top of DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs Poll and off the back of his groundbreaking residency at Cream in Liverpool.

Paul had managed to take the superstar DJ concept to a whole new level, and had redefined what a club residency could be, each and every frenetic week. Meanwhile, GU was now established as the most eagerly anticipated mix series in a crowded and competitive market. This CD was therefore pretty much the ultimate combination.

The music featured comes from a golden age for the kind of driving trance sounds that Paul made his forte. Many of the tracks are Cream Courtyard anthems from the previous 2 years, so the mix holds a special place in the hearts of many who worshipped him at Nation on those amazing Saturday nights.

The album was one of Oakenfold's most successful commercially as it reached number 12 in the UK Compilation Chart. [1]

In 1994, they released the triple CD mix album Renaissance: The Mix Collection on Renaissance Records. It contained many popular dance hits of the time from artists such as Leftfield, Fluke, and 2 Bad Mice as well as original productions and remixes from the duo themselves. Two years later, the duo became "true superstars" (AllMusic) with the release of their double CD Northern Exposure on mega-label Ministry of Sound. This release was brought to the United States the next year in a single CD package on Ultra Records. 1997 saw the release of the Northern Exposure 2 double CD mix album, again on Ministry of Sound. He remixed many UK Top 40 hits during his career with artists like Taylor Dayne and East 17. Between 1994 and 1998 his popularity with the clubbing public was rivaled by only Paul Oakenfold and Carl Cox. A subsequent 15-month survey, which polled hundreds of thousands of global votes, asked who was the Greatest DJ of All Time and when the result was announced in January 2011, Tony De-Vit was ranked No 9 and one of four British DJs who made the Top 10.

Goa Mix, also known as The Goa Mix, is a two-hour DJ mix by British musician and DJ Paul Oakenfold. It was originally broadcast on BBC Radio 1 as an Essential Mix on 18 December 1994 after the producer of the show, Eddie Gordon, chose Oakenfold to produce an eclectic DJ mix for the show which featured a burgeoning variation of electronic styles, having begun the previous year. Oakenfold had, at this point, developed his own unique Goa trance sound, influenced by his time at hippy gatherings on beaches in Goa, and employed it heavily into the mix, which also made pioneering use of film score samples. Oakenfold used the mix as an experiment in which he tried to fuse electronic music, especially trance music, with film score music, and then to overlay the result with vocal parts, samples and additional production. The mix was split into two parts, later referred to as the Silver Mix and the Gold Mix respectively. Reflecting the Goa influence, the album title did not evolve beyond its simplistic working name.
