Gorenji Leskovec (pronounced [ɡɔˈɾeːnji lɛˈskɔːʋəts] or [ɡɔˈɾeːnji lɛˈskoːʋəts] ) is a settlement west of Senovo in the Municipality of Krško in eastern Slovenia. The area was traditionally part of Styria. It is now included in the Lower Sava Statistical Region. [2]

The Lower Sava Statistical Region is a statistical region in Slovenia. It has good traffic accessibility and is located in the Sava and Krka Valleys, with hilly areas with vineyards and an abundance of water. It is the second-smallest statistical region in Slovenia. The only nuclear power plant in the country and Čatež spa are located in the region. The region annually spends EUR 22 million on environmental protection. In 2013, the employment rate in the region was 57.5%. The region was characterized by the largest difference between the employment rate for men and for women. In 2013 this region also stood out in number of convicted persons per 1,000 population (8.3).
The local church in the centre of the village is dedicated to Saint Anthony the Hermit and belongs to the Parish of Brestanica. It was built in the 17th century. In the 18th century the belfry and two side chapels were added. [3]

Anthony the Hermit, also known as Antony of Lérins, is a Christian saint. He was born in the ancient Roman province of Valeria, then part of the Hunnic Empire. When he was eight years old, his father died and he was entrusted to the care of the holy Abbot Severinus of Noricum, in modern-day Austria. Upon the death of Severinus in 482, Anthony was sent to Germany and put in the care of his uncle, Constantius, an early Bishop of Lorsch. While there, Anthony is thought to have become a monk at the age of twenty.
