Green Crescent Trust (GCT) is a non-profit organisation in Sindh, Pakistan that focuses on education and development. It was established in 1995 by group of people with just one goal: making a better Pakistan through education. It started out with just one school and handful of students in Karachi.
Today, GCT aims to making schools a reality for deserving children in underprivileged areas of Sindh. It has expanded their schools network making them more accessible to these children.
GCT is a professional non-profit organisation operated by professionals under the supervision of the Board of Trustees, which runs schools in underprivileged areas of Sindh for the boys and girls in the rural and urban areas. The founders took this initiative with a very few number of students.
Now with the same passion and enthusiasm, bestowed on that first school, GCT has managed to expand their journey of education and expended their chain of schools in all over Sindh. GCT aims to bring a behavioural change in the communities regarding quality education, community building, and motivation and providing opportunities to bring enhancements in their daily lives. For that they have expanded their services in Orphan Support Program, Centre for Educational Research and Development (CERD) for teachers training and Development, The Water Project for the people of Tharparkar.
It is profoundly difficult in rural areas of Sindh to encourage families to gain education, especially for females. Hence, to achieve this, GCT hires the female staff from within the community and trains them for community mobilisation, which greatly helps in convincing the parents to send their children to school. GCT has managed to increase female ratio from 20% to 40% in last 3 years.
Hilal Public School System (HPSS) run by GCT since 1995 was initiated with just one school. HPSS is a network of curriculum-based schools providing subsidised education to underprivileged children across Sindh. HPSS is running 165 schools successfully all over the Sindh with more than 1200 teachers and 33,000 students.
Center for Educational Research and Development (CERD) is the professional training and development center for Teachers and Parents. CERD is providing training to all the GCT Teachers and Parents to bring about a substantial change in their lives through Education. CERD also provides training to other NGOs, Non-Profit Organisations and Charities.
Water is one of the main and basic essences of every human. People of Tharparkar (Sindh, Pakistan) are starving for water, not only for them and their families, but also for the cattle they breed as their means of livelihood. The females of Tharparkar travel a minimum of 3 km daily in scorching heat for search of water for their families.
GCT realised the need of water, when they found out that most of students of HPSS, are not in good health in the Tharparkar region. They took the initiative in 2014 and up till now the GCT has installed 430 water projects, which covers almost 90,000 beneficiaries. Every village now has their own project, providing a safe reliable source of water right outside their homes.
Orphan Support Program (OSP) with the help of donors to help fulfilling the need of education, ethical and moral, health and sustenance need of orphans. Under OSP more than 1600 Orphans are getting supported. The four main elements are:
GCT along with quality education also provides the necessities of education to the deserving students. GCT Book Bank is the program in which books are purchased for the students who could not afford them.
These books are then laminated and made a hard cover, which increases their lifespan to 3 to 4 years, ensuring recycling and avoiding paper waste.
Being a non-profit organisation, the main source of income is from donations, with most of the sources coming from Pakistan, which included corporate and development sectors.
Almost 70% of the donations are utilised in education like building and running schools, providing basic equipment, computer and science labs, library books, uniforms and course books. The rest of the donations include 20% in OSP, CERD and Water Project and 10% is allocated for administration cost.
Infosys Foundation is a non-profit organisation based in Karnataka, India, established in 1996 by Infosys to support the underprivileged sections of society. It supports programs in the areas of education, rural development, healthcare, arts and culture, and destitute care in remote regions of India. The foundation is solely funded by Infosys, and no external donations are accepted.
Mithi is a city and the administrative capital of Tharparkar District in the Sindh province of Pakistan. It became the district headquarter of Tharparkar District in 1990, after the area's separation from Mirpur Khas. Mithi is one of the very few cities in Pakistan where Hindus form a majority. Close to 80% of Mithi's population belongs to the Hindu community. Both Hindus and Muslims reportedly live peacefully and there have been no reports of religious intolerance.
The China Youth Development Foundation or China Youth Development Fund (CYDF) is a national non-profit and non-governmental organization founded in March 1989 in Beijing. The CYDF works to develop Chinese youth through education, science and technology, culture, physical education, health, and environmental protection. The CYDF is best known for launching and managing its largest program to date, "Project Hope." Project Hope has sought to help school dropouts in poor remote regions return to school and complete at least an elementary education.

The organisation is run by volunteers with diverse skillsets across the world and has access to thousands of extra volunteers worldwide. Volunteer staff in all areas often pay their own expenses to support the international projects.
The Citizens Foundation (TCF) is a non-profit organization, and one of the largest privately owned networks of low-cost formal schools in Pakistan. The foundation operates a network of 1,833 school units, educating 280,000 students through over 13,000 teachers and principals, and over 17,400 employees. Approximately 94% of the foundation's expenditure is allocated to the Education program. In addition, TCF also conducts a literacy and numeracy skill development program in communities linked to its schools which has taught reading and writing to over 160,000 adults.
Deepalaya is an Indian non-governmental organization that aids the development of the urban and rural poor in India, with a focus on children. Founded in 1979, it is headquartered in Delhi. Deepalaya primarily serves the urban slums of Delhi, but also works on rural development in the states of Haryana and Uttarakhand. Deepalaya's focus is on sparking sustainable development from within a community.

Mahboba's Promise is an Australian non-profit organisation dedicated to helping the women and the large number of orphaned children of Afghanistan. It is one of the few non-governmental organisations operational in that war-torn nation entirely funded by private donations and currently looks after over 4,000 women and orphans through 90 projects. The organisation with its close knowledge of local conditions valuably supplements the work of UNICEF in the region.

Education and Literacy Department is a department of the Government of Sindh, Pakistan. The primary objective of the department is to look after the educational affairs within the province and co-ordinate with Federal Government and donor agencies regarding promotion of education in the province. The department plays supervisory role of Primary education and manages Secondary education, Technical Education, incentive programs and development schemes. Government of Sindh has bifurcated Education and Literacy Department into two separate departments College Education Department and School Education Department on 6 October 2016 hence having two different Secretaries of the departments.

Care and Relief Foundation or CRF, is an independent, non-profit organisation, founded in 2012 by Allama Syed Zafar Ullah Shah and is based in the United Kingdom. Primary aim of the Care and Relief Foundation is to enable those deprived of their basic rights of life. The Care and Relief Foundation believes firmly in helping those who cannot help themselves to be self-sufficient to meet their basic needs. Paani is an American nonprofit humanitarian organization that provides water aid, emergency assistance and disaster relief in Pakistan. Its headquarters are located in Michigan, United States and it is managed by volunteers. As of 2024, Paani operates in Pakistan and Jordan and has raised over $7 million. Paani has built over 20,000 water wells, and delivered millions of meals to rural families in Pakistan.
Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan is a non-political, non-governmental, and non-profit organization that provides humanitarian and social welfare services to communities across Pakistan. The Foundation has been known for its active involvement in disaster management, healthcare, education, and orphan care for over three decades. Other services include child protection, clean water, mawakhat, and community development.
