Habib Metropolitan Bank, commonly known as Habib Metro Bank, is a Pakistani bank which is a subsidiary of Swiss bank Habib Bank AG Zurich. It is based in Karachi, Pakistan.

History

The bank was founded in 1992 as Metropolitan bank and subsequently started its operations. [2] It was founded by the Habib family as government started privatization of banking sector in Pakistan.

In 2006, Habib Bank AG Zurich's Pakistan operations were merged into Metropolitan Bank Limited and subsequently renamed as Habib Metropolitan Bank Limited. [2]

In 2015, Habib Metro won Asian Development Bank (ADB) award. [3]

From 31 members at its establishment, ADB now has 68 members, of which 49 are from within Asia and the Pacific and 19 from outside.

Makro is an international brand of warehouse clubs, also called cash and carries. Ownership of the worldwide chain of stores is split between two companies: Metro AG in Europe and SHV Holdings in Latin America. SHV opened the first Makro in Amsterdam in 1968. The Privatization process in Pakistan is a continuous policy measure programme in the economic period of Pakistan.
