Hai! (Live in Japan) is a 1982 live album by the U.K. industrial band Cabaret Voltaire. [1] It was recorded at the Tsubaki House in Tokyo, Japan on 23 March 1982, and was released on CD in 1991 by Mute Records Ltd. [2] [3] The original master tapes being lost, the CD was transferred from a vinyl copy (unfortunately, a US pressing was used, with significantly poorer sound and more surface noise than a Japanese original).[ citation needed ]

Contents

The performance on the album reflected the band's move towards a more funk-oriented sound. [4] Alan Fish had joined the band by this time on drums and percussion, replacing Chris Watson. [4]

The album reached number five in the UK Indie Chart in 1982. [5]

Young Marble Giants were a Welsh post-punk band formed in Cardiff, Wales, in 1978. Two years later Revell and Leong relocated to the United States, where Revell works as a Hollywood film score composer. According to Australian rock music historian Ian McFarlane, SPK were "at the forefront of the local post-punk, electronic/experimental movement of the late 1970s ... [their] music progressed from discordant, industrial-strength metal noise to sophisticated and restrained dance-rock with strange attributes".

Chakk were an industrial funk band from Sheffield, who existed from 1981 until 1987. Members were Alan Cross, Mark Brydon, Dee Boyle, Sim Lister, Jake Harries and Jon Stuart. The band never achieved commercial success, but have been noted for their wide influence on later British dance music, particularly via Fon Studios. Mark Brydon later went on to form and achieved success with Moloko.
