The William Lanier Hunt Arboretum is an arboretum and natural area that forms part of the North Carolina Botanical Garden. It is operated by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Old Mason Farm Road, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The arboretum is private and not open to the public. Arboretum property was donated by William Lanier Hunt between the 1960s and the 1990s in order to protect natural areas and conserve woody plants of the southeastern United States. It includes several rhododendron bluffs in a gorge along Morgan Creek.
The Battle of Monroe's Crossroads was a battle during the Carolinas Campaign of the American Civil War in Cumberland County, North Carolina, on the grounds of the present day Fort Bragg Military Reservation. Involving about 4,500 men, it pitted mounted Confederate cavalry against dismounted Union cavalry. It was one of the last all-cavalry battles of the Civil War. The inconclusive fighting lasted for several hours early on the morning of March 10, 1865. The Confederate attack delayed the Federal cavalry's movement toward Fayetteville, denying Brevet Maj. Gen. Hugh Judson Kilpatrick the honor of entering the town first.

Windblow is noted for its peach production; it is the namesake for the Winblo variety of peach. This particular peach, and many others, was developed at the Sandhills Research Station, a facility operated by North Carolina State University, one mile north of the crossroads. The community has a small grocery store and a trucking business in addition to the area farms.
