Heath Baldwin (born 8 February 2001) is an American decathlete. [1]

Early life

He is from Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he attended Hackett Catholic Prep High School. [2] The youngest of four siblings, he was a keen baseball player before focusing on track and field after being persuaded to try it by his strength and conditioning coach. [3] He also played American football and basketball to all-state standard. [4] He attended Michigan State University. [5]

Career

He was runner up to Leo Neugebauer at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships heptathlon in March 2024 in Boston, Massachusetts. [6] In the outdoor season in 2024, Baldwin skipped the regional and national collegiate trials to focus on the Olympic trials. [7] In June 2024, he won the decathlon at the 2024 United States Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon, having also led overnight following the first day of competition. [8] [9] In winning the title he scored a personal best 8625 points. [10]

Curtis Beach is an American decathlete who competed for Duke University. He formerly held high school records in the decathlon using three different implement standards: high school, international junior and international senior. His performances in the high jump, 400 meters, and 1500 meters were superior to those of U.S. Olympic gold medalist Bryan Clay in the 2008 Olympic Games. At the 2011 NCAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship, as a freshman, Beach finished second overall in the decathlon. His 3:59.13 finish in the 1500 meters shattered the previous collegiate record and is the second-fastest 1500 meter in world history for a decathlon, just missing Robert Baker's mark from 1980.

She also set a personal best of 6,347 points by placing second at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, which guaranteed her a qualifying place for the Olympics. Johnson was a member of the track and field team for the Arizona State Sun Devils, where she wa coached and trained by Dan O'Brien, gold medalist in the decathlon at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2008, she won the Honda Sports Award as the nation's best female collegiate track and field athlete.
