Elise Cranny (born May 9, 1996) is an American middle and long-distance runner. [3] She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She is a four-time national champion and holds the American record in the indoor 5000 metres.
Cranny attended Niwot High School in Colorado, where she won two cross country state championships, as well as two state track titles in the 800, 1600, and 3200. [4] Cranny competed at the 2014 World Junior Championships and finished fourth in the 1500 m.
Cranny attended Stanford University and competed for the Cardinal from 2014 to 2018. At the 2015 NCAA Division I Indoor Championships, she won the silver medal in the 3000 m. At the 2016 NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships, she won the silver medal in the 1500 m. At the 2018 NCAA Division I Indoor Championships, she finished fifth in the mile. At the 2018 NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships, she won the bronze medal in the 1500 m. [4]
After graduating from college in 2018, Cranny turned professional with the Bowerman Track Club. [1] At a Bowerman inter-squad meet on July 31, 2020, she competed as a member of the 4 × 1500 m relay team alongside Colleen Quigley, Karissa Schweizer, and Shelby Houlihan. The team ran a time of 16:27.02, which broke the previous world record of 16:33.58 from Kenya.
Cranny competed at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials, and she won the gold medal in the 5000 m to qualify for the Olympic team. Running in 94 degree heat, Cranny won the race with a time of 15:27.81, 0.3 seconds ahead of Bowerman teammate Karissa Schweizer. [5] At the 2020 Summer Olympics, Cranny finished 13th in the 5000 m. In February, Cranny broke the American indoor record in the 5000 m at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University. She had a time of 14:33.17, which was 14 seconds faster than Shalane Flanagan's mark of 14:47. [7] [8]
Cranny competed at the 2022 USA Outdoor Championships and won the gold medal in the 5000 m. At the 2022 World Championships, she finished ninth in the 5000 m.
At the 2023 USA Outdoor Championships, Cranny won gold medals in the 5000 m and 10000 m. She then competed at the 2023 World Championships, where she finished ninth in the 5000 m and 12th in the 10000 m. After the 2023 season, Cranny left the Bowerman Track Club and returned to Boulder, Colorado to join Team Boss under coach Joe Bosshard. [9] [10]
After only a few months with Team Boss, Cranny left the team at the end of February to be coached by Northern Arizona University associate head coach Jarred Cornfield. [11] In November 2024, it was announced that she had signed up for the inaugural season of the Michael Johnson founded Grand Slam Track. [12]

Shannon Solares-Rowbury is an American middle-distance runner from San Francisco, California. After competing collegiately for Duke University, she turned professional in 2007. Rowbury has represented the United States at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Summer Olympics, winning a bronze medal in 2012, becoming the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in the event. She also represented the United States at the World Championships in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017, winning the bronze medal in the 1500 meters in 2009. In 2015, Rowbury helped set the world record with the U.S. team for the distance medley relay event, and set a then-American record for 1500 meters on July 17, 2015, breaking Mary Slaney's 32 year-old mark with a time of 3:56.29.
Grant Jackson Fisher is an American middle- and long-distance runner. Fisher holds American records in the 3000 m, two mile, 5000 m, and 10,000 m events. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Fisher won bronze medals in the 5000 m and 10,000 m, becoming the first American to medal in both events at an Olympic Games.
Sean McGorty is an American middle- and long-distance runner, who competes mainly in the 5000 meters and 10000 meters. He represented the United States in both events at the 2023 World Championships and in the 5000 m at the 2022 World Championships. McGorty is a two-time gold medalist at the NACAC Championships, securing victories in the Junior Men's 6K in 2014 and the 10000 m in 2022.
Colleen Quigley is an American middle-distance runner, steeplechase specialist, and Olympian from St. Louis, Missouri. She is a current world record–holder in the 4x1500-meter relay. Competing in the 3000-meter steeplechase, she finished 8th at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio and 12th at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics in Beijing. She won the 2019 U.S. National Indoor Championship in the mile, running 4:29.47, and was the 2015 NCAA Champion in the 3000-meter steeplechase. In 2023, Quigley announced that she would start competing in triathlon events, but that she still plans to compete in track and field through 2024.
Kate Grace is an American middle-distance runner. A multiple All-American runner for Yale University, she turned professional in 2011. Grace competed for the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympics, making it to the final of the 800 metres.
Gabriela Maria DeBues-Stafford is a Canadian middle- and long-distance runner. A two-time Olympian, she placed fifth in the women's 1500 metres at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. DeBues-Stafford holds the NACAC area record over the indoor 5000 metres, which she set in February 2022.
Shelby Houlihan is an American middle distance runner, Olympian and World Record holder in the 4x1500m relay who is currently serving a doping ban. Houlihan competed in the 5000m final at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, finishing 11th. She is a 12-time US National Champion winning seven indoor and five outdoor titles in middle-distance events. While at Arizona State University she won the 2014 NCAA 1500m championship.
Justyn Knight is a Canadian long-distance track runner. A successful collegiate runner during his time at Syracuse University, he was the school's most-decorated distance runner in cross country and track. On the professional scene, he has represented his country at the World and Olympic level, with his highest finish to date being seventh at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
William "Woody" Kincaid is an American long-distance runner. He is a two-time national champion in the 10000 metres, with victories at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 2021 and 2023. He has held the North American indoor record in the 5000 metres (12:51.61) since 2023. Kincaid represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, the 2022 World Athletics Championships, 2023 World Athletics Championships, and the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. He won a gold medal in the 5000 metres at the 2022 NACAC Championships.
The Bowerman Track Club (BTC) is an American training group sponsored by Nike, Inc. for professional distance runners as well as a separate recreational club for casual runners. The professional team is supported by head coach Jerry Schumacher and assistants Shalane Flanagan, Chris Solinsky, and Alex Ostberg. The non-professional elite team is coached by Elliott Heath. The club maintains a rivalry with the competing Oregon Track Club, also sponsored by Nike, Inc.
Karissa Schweizer is an American middle- and long-distance runner, Olympian and World Record holder in the women's 4x1500 meters relay. She competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 5000 meters and 10,000 meters events finishing 11th and 12th, respectively. In 2020, she set the indoor 3000 meters American Record with a time of 8:25.70.
Joe Klecker is an American long-distance runner. After a successful collegiate career with the Colorado Buffaloes he turned professional in 2020 joining the On Athletics Club coached by Dathan Ritzenhein. Klecker holds personal bests of 3:37.00 for 1500m, 7:34.14 for 3000m, 12:54.99 for 5000m, and 27:07.57 for 10000m, all set as a part of the On Athletics Club.
Cooper Teare is an American middle- and long-distance runner. He is a two-time national champion, securing victories in the 1500 metres at the 2022 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and in the 2024 USA Cross Country Championships. Teare has represented the United States at the 2022 World Athletics Championships, the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships, and the 2017 Pan American U20 Athletics Championships, where he earned a bronze medal in the 1500 m.
