CJ Allen (born February 14, 1995) is an American track and field athlete who competes in the 400 meters hurdles. He is the US men's national record holder over 400m hurdles indoors. [1]

Early life

From Belfair, Washington, he attended North Mason High School. [2]

Career

In 2017, Allen ran 49.44 seconds for Washington State University in the NCAA 400-meter hurdle heats, but finished ninth and missed the final of the NCAA by one spot. In 2022, he ran personal-best time of 48.17s at the 2022 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, but finished fourth in the USA final, and missed earning a place on the United States' World Athletics Championships team in Eugene by one spot. In January 2023, Allen broke the American national record for the 400m hurdles indoors. He ran 48.88 seconds at the American Track League Pro Puma Classic meet held at the University of Iowa. He beat the 49.78 seconds set by Reuben McCoy in 2011, and was a one-hundredth of a second (.01) from the world record of 48.78, set in 2012 by Felix Sanchez of the Dominican Republic. [4]

Allen won the 400m hurdles in 47.92 seconds at the Meeting de Paris at Stade Charlety, Friday, June 9, 2023, in Paris. [5] [6] Allen set a new personal best time for the 400m hurdles competing at the Oslo Diamond League meeting in 2023. [7]

Competing at the 2023 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, in Eugene, Oregon, he finished second in the 400m hurdles finals behind Rai Benjamin, [8] qualifying for the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest in August 2023. [9] In Budapest, he reached the semi finals. [10]

In May 2024, he finished runner-up in the 400 metres hurdles at the 2024 Doha Diamond League. [11] He followed that up with a third place at the 2024 Prefontaine Classic, [12] and third place at the 2024 BAUHAUS-galan Diamond League event in Stockholm. [13] In June 2024, he finished second in the 400 metres hurdles at the US Olympic trials. [14]

Dalilah Muhammad is an American track and field athlete who specializes in the 400 meters hurdles. She is the 2016 Rio Olympics champion and 2020 Tokyo Olympics silver medalist, becoming at the latter the then-second-fastest woman of all time in the event with her personal best of 51.58 seconds. Muhammad was second at both the 2013 and 2017 World Championships to take her first gold in 2019, setting the former world record of 52.16 s. She was the second female 400 m hurdler in history, after Sally Gunnell, to have won the Olympic, World titles and broken the world record. At both the 2019 World Championships and Tokyo Games, she also took gold as part of women's 4 × 400 metres relay team.

Michael Arthur Norman Jr. is an American sprinter. He previously held the world best time in the indoor 400 meters at 44.52 seconds. Outdoors, his 43.45, set at the 2019 Mt. SAC Relays is tied as the #4 on the all time list. In 2016, he became the world junior champion in both the 200 meters and 4×100 meter relay. In 2022, he became the world champion in both the 400 meters and 4x400 meter relay.

Sydney Michelle McLaughlin-Levrone is an American hurdler and sprinter who competes in the 400 meters hurdles. She is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic champion with the Games record, and 2022 World champion. She set a world record time of 50.65 seconds at the U.S. Olympic Trials in June 2024. She is the first track athlete to break four world records in the same event: setting four world records during 13 months, she was the first woman to break the 52-second and 51-second barriers in the 400 m hurdles. She won the silver medal at the 2019 World Championships. At all three competitions, she also took gold as part of a women's 4 × 400 m relay team.
