Heeralal Samaria ( born 14 September 1960) is a retired IAS officer of 1985 batch. Currently,he is serving as Chief Commissioner of the Central Information Commission (CIC). [1]
Heeralal Samaria was born on September 14,1960[ citation needed ],in Kugra village of Bharatpur district in the state of Rajasthan.
Heeralal,a former IAS officer of the 1985 batch of Telangana cadre,who is currently holding the post of Information Commissioner,was promoted by the central government. [2] He was administered the oath of office by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on November 6,2023. Hiralal Samaria is recognized as the first Dalit person to take up this responsibility. [3] He will continue in this post till September 13,2025. He has been appointed as the Chief Commissioner of CIC for a period of two years by the central government. He previously served in various capacities in the united Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states. He served as Director of Singareni,Chairman of Southern Power Distribution Company in the electricity sector,and as Secretary in the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment. He was appointed as the Central Information Commissioner on November 7,2020,and has now been promoted to the post of Chief Commissioner.
The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is the administrative arm of the All India Services of Government of India. The IAS is one of the three All India Services along with the Indian Police Service and Indian Forest Service. Members of these three services serve the Government of India as well as the individual states. The Central Information Commission is a statutory body,set up under the Right to Information Act in 2005 under the Government of India to act upon complaints from those individuals who have not been able to submit information requests to a Central Public Information Officer or State Public Information Officer due to either the officer not have been appointed,or because the respective Central Assistant Public Information Officer or State Assistant Public Information Officer refused to receive the application for information under the Right to Information Act.
