Heinz Ulrik de Boer is a South African journalist and politician who has been a Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature since May 2019. A member of the Democratic Alliance, he was previously the ward councillor for Umhlanga in the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality.

Career

De Boer worked for Daily News until May 2009, when he resigned to contest a by-election in Umhlanga as the Democratic Alliance candidate. [1] He won the by-election in June 2009. [2] He won a full term in 2011 and was re-elected in 2016. [3] [4]

On 20 March 2018, he was elected deputy caucus leader of the DA. [5] He resigned from the post on 3 April 2018 after serving less than two weeks. [6]

Following the 2019 provincial election, he was promoted to the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature. [7] DA caucus leader Zwakele Mncwango appointed him the party's spokesperson on economic development, tourism and environmental affairs. [8]

In 2013 it was reported that there had been more than 450 political assassinations in the province of KwaZulu-Natal since the end of apartheid in 1994. In July 2013 the Daily Maverick reported that there had been "59 political murders in the last five years". In August 2016 it was reported that there had been at least twenty political assassinations in the run up to the local government elections on the 3rd of August that year, most of them in KwaZulu-Natal.

Zwakele Maxwell Mncwango is a South African politician who is the provincial chairperson of ActionSA in KwaZulu-Natal. He was a Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature from 2018 to 2022 and served as the Leader of the Opposition in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature from 2018 to 2019. He was the Provincial Leader of the KwaZulu-Natal Democratic Alliance (DA) from 2015 to 2021. Mncwango was the party's KwaZulu-Natal Premier candidate for the 2019 election.

Thomas Mxolisi Kaunda is a South African politician from KwaZulu-Natal serving as the Mayor of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality since 2019. He was the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison from 2016 to 2019 and a member of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature from 2009 to 2019. Kaunda is a member of the ruling African National Congress (ANC).

Francoise Adrianus Rodgers, known as Francois Rodgers, is a South African politician from KwaZulu-Natal who has been the provincial leader of Democratic Alliance (DA) since 2021.

Vuyiswa Precious Caluza is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature since May 2019. Formerly a local councillor in eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, she is the Deputy Chief Whip of the Majority Party in the legislature.

Siphosihle Emmanuel Hlomuka is a South African politician who is the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison in KwaZulu-Natal, having been appointed in August 2022. He served as the MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs from May 2019 to August 2022. Hlomuka was sworn in as a Member of the Provincial Legislature in May 2019. He is the current deputy provincial secretary of the African National Congress.

Bheki Ntuli is a South African politician who is active in the African National Congress (ANC) of KwaZulu-Natal. He is known for his tenure as Regional Secretary of the ANC's eThekwini branch, an office he held from 2015 to 2019. He subsequently led the branch as its interim coordinator from 2020 until 2022, when he was voted out of the leadership by allies of Zandile Gumede. In July 2022, he was elected to a four-year term on the Provincial Executive Committee of the ANC's KwaZulu-Natal branch.

Lukas Marthinus Meyer is a South African politician who has been a Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature since May 2019, representing the Democratic Alliance. Meyer had previously served as a DA councillor in the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality from 2011 to 2019.

Mmabatho Tembe is a South African politician who has served as a Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature since December 2021. A member of the Democratic Alliance, she had previously served as a councillor in the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality.
