Vuyiswa Precious Caluza is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature since May 2019. Formerly a local councillor in eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, she is the Deputy Chief Whip of the Majority Party in the legislature.

Political career

Caluza was formerly active in the ANC Youth League. [1] She represented the ANC as a local councillor in eThekwini until the May 2019 general election, [2] when she was elected to a seat in the provincial legislature, ranked 14th on the ANC's provincial party list. [3] At that time, she was also a member of the Regional Executive Committee of the ANC's branch in eThekwini. [4] After being sworn in to the legislature on 22 May 2019, [2] she was appointed Deputy Chief Whip of the Majority Party, the ANC. [1]

Boyce was re-elected as Speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal legislature on 14 June 2024, with support from the Inkatha Freedom Party, Democratic Alliance and National Freedom Party. Boyce received 41 votes and defeated Mervyn Dirks of the UMkhonto WeSizwe party who received 39 votes with the support of the Economic Freedom Fighters.

Mervyn Alexander Dirks is a South African politician who served as a Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature from June 2023 until February 2024. A former member of the African National Congress, he previously served as a member of the National Assembly from May 2014 to January 2023.
