Gadjah Mada University is a public research university located in Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Officially founded on 19 December 1949, Gadjah Mada University is one of the oldest and largest institutions of higher education in the country, and has been credited as one of the best universities in Indonesia. In the 2024 QS World University Rankings, UGM is ranked 2nd in Indonesia and 263rd in the world.
RCTI is a West Jakarta-based Indonesian free-to-air television broadcaster. It is best known for its soap operas, celebrity bulletins, news, and sports programmes. It was first launched in 1989, originally as a local pay television operator that broadcasts mostly foreign programmes, before switching to free-to-air terrestrial network a year later.
Seputar Indonesia was Indonesia's longest-running flagship newscast carried by a private television network. It debuted for the first time on the newly inaugurated RCTI on 15 November 1989 as the local news program Seputar Jakarta, as well as the network's first newscast before it evolved to go nationwide on 15 November 1990. Since the end of 2005, the program has regained its position as the most-watched newscast in the country, according to ratings by Nielsen Media Research. During its early years, Seputar Indonesia was also carried by RCTI's then sister network SCTV.
Indonesia Today is the first English-language newscast ever carried by a private television network in Indonesia. It appeared on RCTI from 1 November 1996 to 31 August 2001. On 31 August 2001, Indonesia Today was discontinued due to lack of ratings and replaced by Indonesian-language criminal news, Sergap.
Buletin Malam, is the first newscast containing international stories ever produced by a private television network in Indonesia. it was launched on 1 February 1991 on RCTI, Buletin Malam which was then hosted by Helmi Johannes and Desi Anwar. The newscast is a half-hour pre-midnight news program and it continues to be one of the strongest late night shows in Indonesian television industry, Buletin Malam was also carried by RCTI's then sister network SCTV.

Herman Johannes was an Indonesian professor, scientist, politician and National Hero. Johannes was the rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta (1961–1966), Coordinator for Higher Education from 1966 to 1979, a member of Indonesia's Presidential Supreme Advisory Council from 1968 to 1978, and the Minister for Public Works and Energy (1950–1951). He was also a member of the Executive Board of UNESCO from 1954 to 1957.
Wilhelmus Zakaria Johannes was an Indonesian radiology medical doctor. Johannes was the first Indonesian medical doctor who learned radiology in the CBZ in Batavia and then became an expert in Rontgen technology and had contributed a lot to the development of medical studies in Indonesia. The Indonesian government honored WZ Johannes as a National Hero of Indonesia and named a general hospital in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara after him. As a tribute, the name Wilhelmus Zakaria Johannes was used on an Indonesian Navy ship, the KRI Wilhelmus Zakarias Yohannes. Johannes died in 1952 and was buried at the Jati Petamburan Cemetery in Central Jakarta.

Darmanto Jatman was an Indonesian poet and writer. He was an Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Psychology, Diponegoro University (UNDIP), Semarang. He was known as a humanist, philosopher and poet of Indonesia. He gave birth to the establishment of the Faculty of Psychology at UNDIP and became the first professor in the faculty. On 27 July 2007, Susilo Wibowo of UNDIP gave him the title of Professor, exactly a month before he retired, so that he was immediately given the title of Emeritus Professor.
Edy Suandi Hamid was the rector of the Islamic University of Indonesia between 2006 and 2014 and is a professor of economics at the Faculty of Economics, Islamic University of Indonesia, Yogyakarta. He studied at the Faculty of Economics, University of Gadjah Mada (Drs.), Faculty of Economics (M.Ec.) Thammasat University, Bangkok, Thailand and earned his doctorate degree at UGM. Edy Suandi Hamid was also researcher at the Centre for Rural and Regional Development UGM (1983–1995), researcher at Leknas-LIPI (1984) and the Centre for Economic Democracy Studies UGM, editor at the daily newspaper Kedaulatan Rakyat, Yogyakarta, and also a visiting scholar at Monash University. He has worked at the Faculty of Economics UII since 1985.
Luluk Purwanto or Purwanto is an Indonesian jazz violinist who extends the violin's sound with her voice. She has recorded since the 1980s. She has lived in the Netherlands and in Germany.
C. Soebakdi Soemanto was an Indonesian writer, poet, playwright, editor, and professor at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Yogyakarta.
Aiman Witjaksono is an Indonesian journalist, news anchor and interviewer at RCTI. Previously Witjaksono worked for approximately 10 years at Kompas TV as a broadcaster. On RCTI, his final role was as anchor of the news program Seputar Indonesia before his return on iNews in 2022 as the Editor in Chief.
Mubyarto was an Indonesian economist. He was born in Sleman, in Yogyakarta, and became a professor of economics at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta specialising in agricultural economics. He frequently wrote and spoke about challenges of agricultural development in Indonesia. Later in his career he became known for his interest in Pancasila economics and ekonomi rakyat.
