Herron Keyon Gaston is an American pastor, philanthropist, author, academician, and politician who currently serves as a member of the Connecticut State Senate for the Democratic Party representing the 23rd district encompassing parts of Bridgeport and Stratford where he also chairs the Public safety and vice-chairs the Human Services commissions. Sen. Gaston also serves on the environment, judiciary, and transportation committees. [1] [2] [3] He is currently the Deputy Majority Leader. [4] Gaston currently also serves as Assistant Chief Administrative Officer and Commissioner of the Civil Service Commission of the City of Bridgeport. Additionally, Gaston is the Protestant Chaplain for the Bridgeport Police Department. Gaston is also the Vice President and Chief of Staff at the University of Bridgeport. A pedagogical guru, Sen. Gaston is also a Professor of Criminal Justice & Society. Gaston is the first African American to hold this position in the school’s history. Gaston is the former director of admissions and recruitment at Yale University Divinity School, having been the first African American to hold the position since the school’s inception. [5] [6] Sen. Gaston was invited to the White House by President Biden and Vice-President Harris to address gun violence prevention as a result of his progressive policies around public safety.Gaston was named one of the 100 most influential Blacks in Connecticut by the NAACP, and one of the most powerful leaders in the Democratic Party.
