Anthony Robert Kushner is an American author,playwright,and screenwriter. Lauded for his work on stage,he is most known for his seminal work Angels in America,which earned a Pulitzer Prize and a Tony Award,as well as its subsequent acclaimed HBO miniseries of the same name. At the turn of the 21st century,he became known for his numerous film collaborations with Steven Spielberg. He received the National Medal of Arts from President Barack Obama in 2013. Kushner is among the few playwrights in history nominated for an Emmy,Grammy,Oscar,and Tony Award.
John Edward Sexton is an American legal scholar. He is the Benjamin F. Butler Professor of Law at New York University where he teaches at the law school and NYU's undergraduate colleges. Sexton served as the fifteenth president of NYU,from 2002 to 2015. During his time as president,NYU's stature rose dramatically into the ranks of the world's top universities,and it became the world's first global network university. Sexton has been called a "transformational" figure in higher education and was named by Time Magazine as one of the United States' 10 best college presidents.
The New School is a private research university in New York City. It was founded in 1919 as The New School for Social Research with an original mission dedicated to academic freedom and intellectual inquiry and a home for progressive thinkers. Since then,the school has grown to house five divisions within the university. The Danbury Branch is a diesel branch of the Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line in the U.S. state of Connecticut,running from downtown Norwalk north to Danbury. It opened in 1852 as the Danbury and Norwalk Railroad. Until the early 1970s,passenger service continued north from Danbury to Canaan,Connecticut,and Pittsfield,Massachusetts. Metro-North took over operation of the line from Conrail in 1983,and the modern-day branch is mostly single-tracked.

New York University (NYU) is a private research university in New York City. Donald Beaton Verrilli Jr. is an American lawyer who served as the solicitor general of the United States from 2011 to 2016. President Barack Obama nominated Verrilli to the post on January 26,2011. On June 6,the United States Senate confirmed Verrilli in a 72–16 vote,and he was sworn in on June 9. Verrilli previously served in the Obama administration as the associate deputy attorney general and as Deputy Counsel to the President. He is currently a partner in the Washington,D.C. office of Munger,Tolles &Olson and a lecturer at Columbia University Law School,his alma mater.

First elected in 2008,he represented the 24th District which includes Bethel,Danbury,New Fairfield and Sherman. In the 2018 Midterm Elections,he lost re-election to Democrat Julie Kushner.
The 2021–2022 Columbia University strike was a labor strike involving graduate student workers at Columbia University in New York City. The strike began on March 15,2021,and ended on May 13,2021. However,additional strike action commenced on November 3 and lasted until January 7,2022,when a tentative agreement with the university was reached. The strike was organized by the Graduate Workers of Columbia–United Auto Workers Local 2110 (SWC–UAW),a labor union representing student workers at the university. The goals of the strike were an increase in wages,increased healthcare and childcare coverage,and third-party arbitration in cases of discrimination and sexual harassment.
Connecticut's 24th State Senate district elects one member of the Connecticut State Senate. It consists of the communities of Danbury,New Fairfield,Sherman,and parts of Bethel. It has been represented by Democrat Julie Kushner since 2019.
