Heather Bond Somers (born April 22,1966) is an American politician who has served in the Connecticut State Senate from the 18th District since 2017. [1] [2] [3] She previously served as Mayor of Groton from 2012 to 2014. [4] She also served on the Groton Town Council from 2008 to 2018. [5] Somers has a daughter named Grace,a son,Ian,and another daughter,Hayley. She is divorcing her husband,Mark Somers (born June 30,1966),https://civilinquiry.jud.ct.gov/CaseDetail/PublicCaseDetail.aspx?DocketNo=KNOFA256110903S a cardiologist at Lawrence &Memorial Hospital.
Heather Somers was cross endorsed by the Independent Party in return for condemning President Trump and MAGA Republicans in her district who traveled from Connecticut to Washington,D.C. to attend the Stop The Steal rally on January 6th,2021. [6] [7]
Heather Somers co-sponsored a bill making transgender therapy mandatory in Connecticut. Substitute House Bill No. 6695,now Public Act No. 17-5,AN ACT CONCERNING THE PROTECTION OF YOUTH FROM CONVERSION THERAPY threatens to remove the licenses of healthcare professionals who offer alternatives to minor child sexual castration. Section (b) of the law prohibits any form of 'conversion therapy' practiced by a health care provider be considered unprofessional conduct and shall be grounds for disciplinary action under section 19a-17,21a-7 or 21a-8 of the general statutes,including,but not limited to,suspension or revocation of the professional's license,certification or registration to practice his or her profession.
