Jive Records was a British-American independent record label founded by Clive Calder in 1981 as a subsidiary of the Zomba Group. In the US, the label had offices in New York City and Chicago. Jive was best known for its successes with hip hop, R&B, and dance acts in the 1980s and 1990s, along with teen pop and boy bands during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
UGK was an American rap duo from Port Arthur, Texas, formed in 1987, by Mitchell “Big Mitch” Queen who would eventually leave the group to pursue a football career and Chad "Pimp C" Butler with Bernard “Bun B” Freeman replacing Big Mitch who would still make guest appearances on UGK songs. They released their first major-label album, Too Hard to Swallow, in 1992, followed by several other albums charting on the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts, including the self-titled Underground Kingz album, which contained their single "International Players Anthem " and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, in August 2007. The duo has also been featured on hit singles by several other artists, such as "Big Pimpin'" by Jay-Z and "Sippin' on Some Syrup" by Three 6 Mafia. Pimp C founded UGK Records in late 2005. On December 4, 2007, Pimp C died in his West Hollywood, California hotel room.
Joseph Lewis Thomas, known mononymously as Joe, is an American R&B singer. He signed to Polygram Records in 1992, and rose to prominence after releasing his debut album Everything the following year. He followed it with a series of successful albums under Jive Records, including All That I Am (1997), the international bestseller My Name Is Joe (2000) as well as the multi-certified albums Better Days (2001) and And Then... (2003). Several songs from these albums became hit singles on the pop and R&B record charts, including the number-one hit "Stutter", the top-ten entries "All the Things ", "Don't Wanna Be a Player", and "I Wanna Know" as well as his collaborations "Faded Pictures" and "Thank God I Found You", the latter of which he performed alongside Mariah Carey, also a number-one hit, and "Still Not a Player".
Blackground Records 2.0 is an American record label founded and owned by Jomo and Barry Hankerson. Initially named Blackground Enterprises, the label switched its name to Blackground Entertainment then later Blackground Records in 2000. In 2021, the label rebranded as Blackground Records 2.0, reviving its company and catalogue onto streaming services, with a partnership with Empire Distribution. It co-operated with a publishing company founded by Hankerson, named Black Fountain Music.
B.T. Express was an American funk/disco group that had a number of successful songs during the 1970s.
"Jive Talkin'" is a song by the Bee Gees, released as a single in May 1975 by RSO Records. This was the lead single from the album Main Course. It hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and top-five on the UK Singles Chart in the middle of 1975. Largely recognised as the group's comeback song, it was their first US top-10 hit since "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" (1971).
Anthony Ulysses Thompson, Jr. was an American singer–songwriter. Thompson was best known as the lead vocalist of the American R&B quintet Hi-Five, which had hit singles such as "I Like the Way " and "I Can't Wait Another Minute". After the group disbanded in 1994, Thompson found solo success the following year with his debut album Sexsational in 1995.
Lawrence Franks Jr., better known by his stage name Huey, was an American rapper from St. Louis, Missouri. Originally signed to Jive Records, Huey was best known for his 2006 single, "Pop, Lock & Drop It".
"I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)" is a song recorded by American R&B group Hi-Five on their 1990 eponymous debut studio album. The song was written by Teddy Riley, Bernard Belle and Dave Way, and released as the album's second single on January 2, 1991, by the Jive label. It was a number one pop song and was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on May 10, 1991. The video has an exceptionally large amount of dark colours and shadows in contrast to the light-hearted and bubblegum pop song that plays.
Asia Nalani Vernimo-Kovacs, known professionally as Asia Cruise, is an American R&B singer. In 2008, she became the first artist of Asian descent to be signed to Hitz Committee/Jive Records and was discovered by the Vice President of A&R at Jive Records, Mickey "MeMpHiTz" Wright.
Rufus featuring Chaka Khan is the gold-selling fourth studio album by the funk band Rufus and Chaka Khan, released on the ABC Records label in 1975. It remained on top of the R&B album chart for six consecutive weeks.
The Chi-Lites are an American R&B/soul vocal quartet from Chicago. Forming at Chicago's Hyde Park High School in 1959, The group's original lineup consisted of singers Robert Lester, Eugene Record, Creadel Jones, Clarence Johnson, Burt Bowen, Eddie Reed and Marshall Thompson.
Hi-Five is the debut album by the American vocal group Hi-Five. Released on September 25, 1990, the album peaked at number thirty eight on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Driven by the hit singles "I Just Can't Handle It", "I Like the Way ", "I Can't Wait Another Minute" and "Just Another Girlfriend", the album received an RIAA platinum certification. Also, Hi-Five is the only album to feature original Hi-Five member Toriano Easley, who was arrested for first-degree murder and manslaughter after the album was recorded but just before it was released. Easley is heard sharing lead vocals on "The Way You Said Goodbye", "Rag Doll", "I Can't Wait Another Minute", and "I Know Love". In the video for "I Can't Wait Another Minute", Easley's replacement Treston Irby lip-syncs Easley's part.
Nuttin' Nyce was an American girl group from Sacramento, California that formed in 1992. They signed to Pocketown Records and released an album and five singles before splitting up in 1996.
Lee Ha-yi, known by her stage name Lee Hi, is a South Korean singer and songwriter. She first garnered attention as the runner-up of K-pop Star 1. She debuted with single "1, 2, 3, 4" on October 28, 2012, and reached number one with first week sales of 667,549 downloads. Her first full-length album First Love was released in two parts, part 1 on March 7, 2013, and part 2 on March 28, 2013.
Keep It Goin' On is the second studio album by the American band Hi-Five. It was released on August 11, 1992, by Jive Records. The lead single "She's Playing Hard to Get" peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and number two on the R&B singles chart. It is the second studio album featuring the teen frontman lead singer Tony Thompson who propelled this album into platinum status. It also features the first appearance of Bronx, New York native, Treston Irby. These singles from their previous album, featuring Irby include: "I Can't Wait Another Minute", "I Like the Way ", and the remix version of "Just Another Girlfriend". Keep It Goin' On is the final album to include the original members Roderick "Pooh" Clark and Russell Neal.

The labels and artists are often represented by trade associations in their country or region, which in turn are represented by the international trade body, the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN).
Sexsational is the only solo album by American R&B singer Tony Thompson of the group Hi-Five. It was released June 23, 1995, on Giant Records. The album spawned two singles, one of which, the top 20 R&B hit "I Wanna Love Like That", became his highest-charting sole appearance on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking inside the top sixty, where it reached #59 on that chart.
Shelly Clark is an American singer, dancer and actress, best known as a founding member of the 1970s R&B girls group, Honey Cone who had the No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit single, "Want Ads" released in March 1971.
Lontrell Donell Williams, Jr., better known by his stage name Pooh Shiesty, is an American rapper from Memphis, Tennessee. He signed with Gucci Mane's 1017 Records, an imprint of Atlantic Records in 2020, he rose to prominence following his collaborations with the label's founder and cohorts. That same year, his single "Back in Blood" peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. It preceded the release of his debut commercial mixtape Shiesty Season (2021), which peaked at number three on the Billboard 200. His stage name was given by his late brother, who adapted his childhood nickname "Mr. Pooh" with the vernacular slang term "shiesty"—referential of his lifestyle.
