High and Low is an upcoming American crime thriller film directed by Spike Lee. It is an English-language remake of the 1963 Japanese film High and Low , itself loosely based on the 1959 novel King's Ransom by Ed McBain (Evan Hunter). The film stars Denzel Washington, Ilfenesh Hadera, Jeffrey Wright, Ice Spice, ASAP Rocky, Dean Winters, John Douglas Thompson, and Michael Potts.

Production

Alan Fox wrote the original script, and Denzel Washington came on board to star before Spike Lee became involved in rewriting the screenplay and directing the film. [2] In February 2024, the film was officially announced, to be produced by A24, Todd Black for Escape Artists, and Jason Michael Berman for Mandalay Pictures. Spike Lee is also an executive producer through his 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks production company. [3] Ilfenesh Hadera, Jeffrey Wright, and Ice Spice joined the cast soon after, [4] [5] [6] and principal photography began in New York City on March 4, 2024, with Matthew Libatique as cinematographer. [7] Filming wrapped on June 3. [8]

Release

The film is set to be released theatrically by A24 in spring 2025 before it is available to stream on Apple TV+. [3]
