Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) is a design school in Tiu Keng Leng,Tseung Kwan O,Hong Kong. It was founded by the Vocational Training Council in 2007 and moved into a purpose-built campus in 2010. The school offers higher diplomas,academic degrees,and continuing education programmes in various design disciplines.
The Hong Kong Design Institute was envisioned to centralise existing design programmes offered at various other Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education campuses in Tiu Keng Leng,Sha Tin,Kwai Chung,Kwun Tong,and Tsing Yi. [1]
In April 2006,the VTC opened an international architecture competition to design a new campus able to accommodate 4,000 students. The competition was judged by a panel of noted architects including Richard Meier and Rocco Yim. [1] The winning design,which beat out 162 other submissions,was produced by the French architecture firm Coldefy &Associés. [2]
Academic oversight of the Hong Kong Design Institute is provided by the Academic Director (Design Discipline) of the Vocational Training Council who is concurrently the campus Principal. The Hong Kong Design Institute and Institute of Vocational Education (Lee Wai Lee) combined campus at Tiu Keng Leng is managed by the campus Principal and Vice-Principals. The Design programmes are offered mainly at the Tiu Keung Leng site with some programmes located at the IVE (Kwun Tong) and IVE (Morison Hill) campuses.
The HKDI campus,located in Tiu Keng Leng in Tseung Kwan O New Town,opened in the fall of 2010. The building comprises a massive rectangular volume suspended seven storeys above street level on four towers supported by a steel lattice exoskeleton. The podium houses four auditoriums and lecture theaters,a cafe,and gallery and exhibition space. Sports facilities include an indoor games hall,outdoor basketball courts,and a swimming pool. [2]
The HKDI is located beside the new Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) Lee Wai Lee campus,which relocated from Kowloon Tong before the 2010-11 school year. The two buildings are linked together by footbridges.
The campus is across the street from Tiu Keng Leng station (Exit A2),which serves both the Tseung Kwan O line and Kwun Tong line of the MTR.
The Kwun Tong line is a rapid transit line of the MTR network in Hong Kong,coloured green on the MTR map. Starting at Whampoa in Hung Hom and ending at Tiu Keng Leng in Tseung Kwan O,Sai Kung,the route has 17 stations and takes 35 minutes to complete. The Kwun Tong line is one of the busiest railway lines on the network connecting the central and the eastern portions of Kowloon via Wong Tai Sin. The line is mostly underground,but includes a lengthy elevated section,and runs generally in an east-west direction. During the morning rush hour,the Kwun Tong line utilises 33 trains running at 29tph to achieve a route capacity of 85,000 pphpd.
The Tseung Kwan O line is one of the ten lines of the MTR system in Hong Kong,indicated by the colour purple. It is currently 12.3 kilometres (7.6 mi) long,taking 15 minutes to travel throughout the entire line.
Tseung Kwan O New Town is one of the nine new towns in Hong Kong,built mainly on reclaimed land in the northern half of Junk Bay in southeastern New Territories,after which it is named. The town/land area is usually known simply as Tseung Kwan O.
Tseung Kwan O is a station on the MTR Tseung Kwan O line located at the town centre of the Tseung Kwan O New Town in the New Territories of Hong Kong. The previous station is Tiu Keng Leng and the line splits after this station to LOHAS Park and Hang Hau. The entrances to the station are on Tong Chun Street,Popcorn Mall and Tong Yin Street. A public transport interchange is located outside the station. The architecture firm Aedas designed the station.
Tiu Keng Leng station is an MTR station located in Tiu Keng Leng. The station features cross-platform interchange between the Tseung Kwan O line and the Kwun Tong line,and serves as the eastern terminus of the Kwun Tong line and the western terminus of the Tseung Kwan O line for LOHAS Park shuttle. It is between Tseung Kwan O and Yau Tong stations on the Tseung Kwan O line,and proceeds to Yau Tong station on the Kwun Tong line. It is the only station on the Kwun Tong line located in the New Territories. The livery of the station is yellow-green.
Tiu Keng Leng,formerlyRennie's Mill,is an area of Hong Kong in the Sai Kung District adjacent to Tseung Kwan O.
Yau Tong is a station on the Hong Kong MTR Kwun Tong line and the Tseung Kwan O line. It is the only station of the Tseung Kwan O line located in Kowloon. The livery of the station is yellow. Although the train platforms are constructed above ground level,they are sealed from the outside with concrete walls to prevent the noise of trains from disturbing the nearby residents of Yau Tong Estate.
Po Lam is a neighbourhood in northern Tseung Kwan O,Kowloon. An MTR station with the same name,Tseung Kwan O Village,Yau Yue Wan Village,King Lam Estate,and Po Lam Estate are located there.
Lam Tin is an area in the Kwun Tong District in southeastern New Kowloon,Hong Kong. Lam Tin is primarily a residential area but also hosts a major transport interchange and several shopping attractions. Lam Tin was once a large field in the vicinity of Kowloon Bay. During the Song dynasty,it was a site of salt production. Since the 1980s,a number of housing estates were constructed in Lam Tin.
LOHAS Park is an MTR station on the Tseung Kwan O line of the MTR system in Hong Kong. It opened on 26 July 2009.

Caritas Bianchi College of Careers (CBCC) was established in 1971 and has been providing post-secondary education since then. At present,it mainly offers sub-degree programmes in three general disciplines:business and hospitality management,design and health sciences. It is located at Tiu Keng Leng,Tseung Kwan O,near Tiu Keng Leng station.
Kin Ming Estate is a public housing estate in Tiu Keng Leng,Tseung Kwan O,New Territories,Hong Kong,near MTR Tiu Keng Leng station. It is the eighth public housing estate in Tseung Kwan O and consists of ten housing blocks completed in 2003.
