Demographics
Based on the 2007 national census conducted by the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia (CSA), this woreda has a total population of 275,638, an increase of 38.27% over the 1994 census, of whom 137,382 are men and 138,256 women; 30,594 or 11.10% are urban inhabitants. With an area of 1,496.69 square kilometers, Hulet Ej Enese has a population density of 184.17, which is greater than the Zone average of 153.8 persons per square kilometer. A total of 64,272 households were counted in this woreda, resulting in an average of 4.29 persons to a household, and 62,477 housing units. The majority of the inhabitants practiced Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity, with 95.3% reporting that as their religion, while 4.66% of the population said they were Muslim. [2]
The 1994 national census reported a total population for this woreda of 199,352 in 39,245 households, of whom 99,829 were men and 99,523 were women; 20,554 or 10.31% of its population were urban dwellers. The largest ethnic group reported in Hulet Ej Enese was the Amhara (99.93%). The majority of the inhabitants practiced Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity, with 93.37% reporting that as their religion, while 6.55% were Muslim. [3]
Gondar Zuria is a woreda in Amhara Region, Ethiopia. Part of the Semien Gondar Zone, Gondar Zuria is bordered on the south by the Debub Gondar Zone, on the southwest by Lake Tana, on the west by Dembiya, on the north by Lay Armachiho, on the northeast by Wegera, and on the southeast by Mirab Belessa. Towns in Gondar Zuria include Azazo, Degoma, Emfraz, Maksenit and Teda. The city and woreda of Gondar is surrounded by Gondar Zuria in the northern part of this woreda.
Simada is a woreda in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Debub Gondar Zone, Simada is bordered on the southeast by the Bashilo River which separates it from the Debub Wollo Zone, on the southwest by the Abay River which separates it from the Misraq Gojjam Zone, on the west by Misraq Este, on the north by Lay Gayint, and on the northeast by Tach Gayint. Part of this woreda's boundary with Este is defined by the Wanka, a tributary of the Abay. The major town in Simada is Wegeda.
Este was one of the 105 woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Debub Gondar Zone, Este was bordered on the south by the Abay River which separated it from the Misraq Gojjam Zone, on the west by Dera, on the northwest by Fogera, on the north by Farta, on the northeast by Lay Gayint, and on the east by Simada; part of this woreda's boundary with Simada was defined by the Wanka, a tributary of the Abay. Towns in Este included Jara Gedo and Mekane Yesus, as well as the historic settlement of Mahdere Maryam. Este was divided for Mirab Este and Misraq Este woredas.

Sayint is a woreda in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. It’s named after the historic district of Amhara Sayint. Part of the South Wollo Zone, Sayint is bordered on the south by Debre Sina and Mehal Sayint, on the west by the Blue Nile that separates it from the East Gojjam Zone, on the northwest by the Bashilo River that separates it from the South Gondar Zone, on the north by Magdala, on the east by Tenta and on the southeast by Legambo. The major town in Sayint is Sayint Ajebar. Mehal Sayint was created by separating it from Sayint.

Part of the Misraq Gojjam Zone, Enbise Sar Midir is bordered on the south by Enarj Enawga, on the west by Goncha Siso Enese, and on the north and east by Abay River which separates it from the Debub Gondar Zone and Debub Wollo Zone. The administrative center of this woreda is Mertule Mariam; other towns in Enbise Sar Midir include Dibo.

Part of the Misraq Gojjam Zone, Enarj Enawga is bordered on the south by Enemay, on the southwest by Debay Telatgen, on the west by Hulet Ej Enese, on the north by Goncha Siso Enese, on the northeast by Enbise Sar Midir, on the east by the Abbay River which separates it from the Debub Wollo Zone, and on the southeast by Shebel Berenta. Towns in Enarj Enawga include Debre Werq and Felege Berhan.
Debay Telatgen is one of the woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Misraq Gojjam Zone, Debay Telatgen is bordered on the extreme south by Dejen, on the southwest by Awabel, on the west by Sinan, on the northwest by Bibugn, on the north by Hulet Ej Enese, on the northeast by Enarj Enawga, and on the east by Enemay. The major town in Debay Telatgen is Kuyi.
Gozamn is one of the woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the East Gojjam Zone, Guzamn is bordered on the southeast by Baso Liben, on the south by the Abay River which separates it from the Oromia Region, on the west by Debre Elias, on the northwest by Machakel, on the north by Sinan, and on the east by Aneded; the Chamwaga River defines part of the border between the Guzamn and Baso Liben woredas. The town and woreda of Debre Marqos is an enclave inside Guzamn. Towns in Guzamn include Chemoga and Yebokile. Sinan woreda was separate from Guzamn.
Awabel is a woreda in Amhara Region, Ethiopia. Towns in Awabel include Lumame and Wejel. The woreda of Aneded was separated from Awabel.
Achefer was one of the 105 woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. It was named for the historic district of Achefer, which was first mentioned in the 16th century. Part of the Mirab Gojjam Zone, Achefer was bordered on the south by the Agew Awi Zone, on the west by the Semien Gondar Zone, on the north by Lake Tana, on the northeast by Bahir Dar Zuria, and on the southeast by Merawi; the Lesser Abay River defined the woreda's eastern boundary. The woreda included Dek Island. The administrative center was Yesmala; other towns in Achefer included Durbete, Liben, Kunzela, Chiba and Wandege. Acheref was divided for Debub Achefer and Semien Achefer woredas.
Bahir Dar Zuria is one of the woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Mirab Gojjam Zone, this woreda is bordered on the south by Yilmana Densa, on the southwest by Mecha, on the northwest by the Gilgel Abay River which separates it from Semien Achefer, on the north by Lake Tana, on the shores of Lake Tana situates the city and special zone of Bahir Dar, and on the east by the Abay River which separates it from the Debub Gondar Zone.
Yilmana Densa is one of the woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Mirab Gojjam Zone, Yilmana Densa is bordered on the south by Kuarit, on the southwest by Sekela, on the west by Mecha, on the north by Bahir Dar Zuria, on the east by the Abay River which separates it from the Debub Gondar Zone, and on the southeast by the Misraq Gojjam Zone. The major town in Yilmana Densa is Adet.
Mecha is one of the woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. The name, Mecha, is taken from the name for a subdivision of the province of Gojjam. Part of the Mirab Gojjam Zone, Mecha is bordered on the south by Sekela, on the southwest by the Agew Awi Zone, on the west by the Lesser Abay River which separates it from Debub Achefer and Semien Achefer, on the northeast by Bahir Dar Zuria, and on the east by Yilmana Densa. Towns in Mecha include Merawi and Wetet Abay.
Quarit is one of the woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Mirab Gojjam Zone, Quarit is bordered on the southwest by Jabi Tehnan, on the west by Sekela, on the north by Yilmana Densa, on the east by the Misraq Gojjam Zone, and on the southeast by Dega Damot. The major town in Quarit is Gebeze Mariam. Goncha woreda was separated from Quarit.

Goncha is one of the woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Misraq Gojjam Zone, Goncha is bordered on the south, west and north by the Mirab Gojjam Zone, on the east by Hulet Ej Enese, and on the southeast by Bibugn. Goncha was part of Kuarit woreda. It belonged to the Mirab Gojjam Zone but according to the map of UN-OCHA it is part of Misraq Gojjam Zone now.
