The landscape of this woreda is divided into two types: the lava plateau in the northern part and fertile lowlands in the south towards the Abay. Until the late 1930s as much as 25% of the land was covered with trees. Rivers in this woreda include the Muga, which is a perennial river, and the Yegudfin which only flows during the rainy season.[2] Notable landmarks include the Wolde Beri Caves, a limestone cave system which was used as a shelter during the Italian occupation.[3]
Soma desert is another historic place where the patriot Belay zeleke was organizing his force and living to defeat the invader italian during the second colonial attempt in 1930s.
Demographics
Based on the 2007 national census conducted by the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia (CSA), this woreda has a total population of 165,292, of whom 82,175 are men and 83,117 women; 18,872 or 11.42% are urban inhabitants. The majority of the inhabitants practiced Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity, with 92.05% reporting that as their religion, while 7.78% of the population said they were Muslim.[4]
The 1994 national census reported a total population for this woreda of 120,914 in 24,130 households, of whom 60,022 were men and 60,892 were women; 14,160 or 11.71% of its population were urban dwellers. The largest ethnic group reported in Enemay was the Amhara (99.83%). The majority of the inhabitants practiced Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity, with 89.55% reporting that as their religion, while 10.33% were Muslim; this was the largest concentration of Muslims in Misraq Gojjam, either in numbers or percentage.[5]
Hulet Ej Enese is one of the woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. The major town in Debay Telatgen is Kuyi.

Towns in Machakel include Amanuel. Woreda of Debre Elias was separated from Machakel.
Awabel is a woreda in Amhara Region, Ethiopia. Part of the Misraq Gojjam Zone, Awabel is bordered on the south by the Abay River which separates it from the Oromia Region, on the west by Aneded, on the northwest by Sinan, on the northeast by Debay Telatgen, and on the east by Dejen. Towns in Awabel include Lumame and Wejel. The woreda of Aneded was separated from Awabel.
Dejen is a woreda in Amhara Region, Ethiopia. This woreda is named after the traditional district it lies in, Dejen, which is best known as where Admas Mogasa, the widow of Emperor Menas, raised the future Emperor Susenyos and instructed him in "the doctrine of the holy books." Part of the Misraq Gojjam Zone, Dejen is bordered on the south by the Abay River which separates it from the Oromia Region, on the west by Awabel, on the northwest by Debay Telatgen, on the north by Enemay, and on the east by Shebel Berenta. The major town in Dejen is Dejen.
Shebel Berenta is a woreda in Amhara Region, Ethiopia, named after two older districts which occupy the area this woreda currently covers: Berenta which is north of the Mecha river, and Shebel which is south of that stream. Part of the Misraq Gojjam Zone, Shebel Berenta is bordered on the southwest by Dejen, on the northwest by Enemay, on the north by Enarj Enawga, and on the east by the Abay River which separates it from the Oromia Region. The major town in Shebel Berenta is Yed Wuha.
