"I'm the Trend" (stylized as "i'M THE TREND") is a song recorded by South Korean girl group (G)I-dle dedicated for their fans, Neverland. It was released as a digital single on July 7, 2020 by Cube Entertainment. The single is composed by members Minnie and Yuqi, Yuto of Pentagon and FCM Houdini. The song was unveiled during their first online concert I-Land: Who Am I on July 5, 2020. An accompanying special clip for the song was uploaded onto (G)I-dle's YouTube channel simultaneously with the single's release.

Background and release

The song was first teased by Cube with photos of (G)I-dle's song title as stickers with the phrase "Coming soon-!" starting June 28 and ended on July 2, [1] [2] leaving fans questioned whether it is a Japanese version of the songs. [3] Later, on July 5, Cube revealed the artwork teaser image of the digital single with logo stickers such as 'Latata', 'Senorita', 'Uh-Oh', 'Lion' and 'Oh my god'. [4]

"I'm the Trend" is Minnie's first self-written song in about a year after the release of "Blow Your Mind" in February 2018 and their Japanese single "For You" from the Japanese debut album Latata in July 2019. Additionally, this release marks Yuqi's first contribution in writing, producing and composing in the group's discography. [5]

Composition and lyrics

"I'm the Trend" is a Latin music-based dance song that boasts an exciting rhythm, features lyrics that reference their other hit songs as points such as "Oh My God", "Blow Your Mind", "Latata", "Lion", "Maze", "Uh-Oh" and "Senorita". [6] It is composed in the key of B minor, with a tempo of 145 BPM running three minutes and twenty-five seconds. [7]

Promotion and critical reception

"I'm the Trend" was first performed as an encore at their first solo concert, I-Land: Who Am I. [8]

A special clip and lyric video was released on July 7, 2020. [9]

Rania Aniftos from Billboard described the song as "infectious spunky tune". [10]

Commercial performance

The song debuted at number 96 on South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart with Gaon index of 4,608,218 on the chart issue dated July 5–11, 2020. [11] It also debuted at number 14 and 122 on Download Chart and Streaming Chart, respectively. [12] [13] The track surpassed 1.8 million-plus Spotify streams and 1.8 million YouTube views as their monthly listeners eclipsed 3.5 million on Spotify.[ citation needed ]

She first gained attention for competing in the television shows Produce 101 and Unpretty Rapstar before debuting as a solo artist on November 5, 2017. On May 2, 2018, she debuted as the leader and rapper of the girl group (G)I-dle, for whom she has written and produced most title songs. She is also part of SM Station X girl group project Station Young and has portrayed League of Legends character Akali in the virtual musical groups K/DA and True Damage.

(G)I-dle is a South Korean girl group formed by Cube Entertainment in 2018. The group consists of five members: Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi, and Shuhua. The group was originally a sextet, until Soojin left the group on August 14, 2021. (G)I-dle debuted on May 2, 2018, with the single "Latata" from their first extended play (EP) I Am. They debuted in Japan under U-Cube with Latata on July 31, 2019. Since their debut, they have been considered one of the most successful South Korean girl groups outside of the "big four" record labels.

"Hwaa" is a song recorded by South Korean girl group (G)I-DLE, released on January 11, 2021, by Cube Entertainment and Republic Records as the lead single of the group's fourth extended play, I Burn. The song is written by member Soyeon and co-produced by Pop Time. The inspiration for the song came to Soyeon when member Shuhua once said 'winter girl' in a conversation. She took the idea and created the concept of a woman trapped in winter. Musically, it is a moombahton, dark pop, dream pop and synth-pop track with oriental instrumentations, and contains double entendres about fire and flowers. The song was the last single released by (G)I-DLE as a sextet, before Soojin's departure from the group in August 2021.

Just Me ( )I-dle was the debut concert tour headlined by South Korean girl group (G)I-dle. The name was derived from the lyric featured in the song "Tomboy" of their first studio album, I Never Die (2022). The world tour commenced with three shows in Seoul on June 17, 2022, and continued onto several cities in Asia, North America, and Latin America, comprising 21 shows in 18 countries. This is the group's first in-person concert tour since their debut in 2018. The tour ended on October 1, 2022, in Singapore.

I Am Free-ty World Tour was the second worldwide concert tour by South Korean girl group (G)I-dle, in support of their extended play I Feel (2023). The world tour began on June 17, 2023 in Seoul, South Korea, and concluded on October 29, 2023 in Singapore. The tour consisted of 24 shows in 18 countries in Asia, North America, and Europe.
