The Iloilo City Public Market, also known as IloiloCentral Market or Tienda Mayor, was a public market in Iloilo City, Philippines. It was one of the two largest palengkes in Iloilo City Proper, the other being the Iloilo Terminal Market, more commonly referred to locally as Super. The two large public markets are currently undergoing redevelopment by SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SMPHI) through a public-private partnership (PPP) with the Iloilo City Government. [1] The old structure was demolished with pledge for a faithful reconstruction made.
The Iloilo Central Market was publicly opened on January 15, 1912, with its Art Deco façade being added in 1938. It underwent its first renovation Acting Mayor Rosa Caram's 1986 to 1987 term. [2] The market was situated in the Calle Real Heritage Zone in the city's downtown area. It is surrounded by other heritage structures dating back to colonial times in Spanish and American history. It became a Cultural Tourism Heritage Zone in 2013, followed by becoming a Historic Center through NHCP Resolution No. 3 in 2014. [2] On August 3, 2022, SM Prime Holdings was awarded a 25-year lease agreement for the redevelopment of the market. [3]
In March 2024, the Iloilo Central Market's Art Deco façade was demolished to facilitate a stronger, accurate reconstruction, with SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SMPHI) having pledged to replicate the original design. [4] This decision, however, sparked skepticism regarding the city government's approval process. [5] Mayor Jerry Treñas faced administrative complaints related to the alleged unlawful demolition of the market. [6] The complaints were filed by Jose Nereo Lujan, chief information officer of the Iloilo Provincial Information and Community Affairs Office (PICAO), with the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas in Iloilo City. Despite the commitment made during the lease agreement signing in August 2022 to preserve the façade as a heritage structure, the recent demolition raised significant controversy. [6]

It went public on July 5, 1994, and subsequently grew to become the largest company listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange in terms of revenue. The company's main sources of revenues primarily include rental income from mall and food courts, as well as from cinema ticket sales and amusement income.
SM Investments Corporation (SMIC), also known as SM Group, is a Filipino conglomerate with interests in various sectors, mostly in shopping mall development and management, retail, real estate development, banking, and tourism. Founded by Henry Sy, it has become one of the largest conglomerates in the Philippines, being the country's dominant player in retail with 208 stores nationwide. Of these, 47 are SM Department Stores; 38 are SM Supermarkets; 37 are SM Hypermarkets, and 86 are SaveMore branches.

It is located along Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue in the district of Mandurriao. It has a land area of 170,000 m2 (1,800,000 sq ft) and a total gross floor area of 181,657 m2 (1,955,340 sq ft).
SM Delgado is a shopping mall in downtown Iloilo City, Philippines. It is owned by SM Land Inc. and operated by Metro Manila Shopping Mecca Corporation, the same arm of the SM Group that operate the branches at SM City Manila and SM City Santa Rosa. It is the oldest SM store in the Philippines outside Metro Manila. It is located within Iloilo City Proper's commercial district along Delgado and Valeria Streets. It is the fourth SM Store built by Henry Sy Sr. and the first branch opened outside Metro Manila. Initially just a department store, SM Supermarket was conceptualized and opened at SM Delgado in 1985. The mall was relaunched in 2004.
The Manila Jai Alai Building was a building designed by American architects Welton Becket and Walter Wurdeman that functioned as a building for which jai alai games were held. It was built in the Streamline Moderne style in 1940 and survived the Battle of Manila. It was considered as the finest Art Deco building in Asia, until its demolition. It was demolished in 2000 upon the orders of the Mayor of Manila Lito Atienza amidst protests, to make way for the Manila Hall of Justice, which was never built.
Harrison Plaza (HP) was a shopping mall situated along Adriatico Street corner Ocampo Street in the district of Malate in Manila, Philippines. Opened in 1976 and closed at the end of 2019, it was the first modern and major shopping mall located in the area. The shopping mall building has been demolished to give way for a redevelopment of the site into residential building complex with a shopping center called SM City Harrison by SM Prime Holdings.
The Futurist Cinema was a cinema located in Lime Street, Liverpool. Opened as Lime Street Picture House in 1912, the cinema operated until closing in 1982. Unable to find a new owner it was left to decline. It was demolished in 2016 after a court battle over the controversial plans for redevelopment of the area.
Escolta Street is a historic east–west street located in the old downtown district of Binondo in Manila, Philippines. It runs parallel to the Pasig River, from Quintin Paredes Road to Plaza Santa Cruz Road. The street is home to several fine examples of early skyscraper design in the Philippines.

The Estates combine elements of SM Prime's core segments such shopping malls, residential development, commercial development, hotels and conventions, and leisure areas and resorts. SM Prime plans to develop more "estates" similar to the 60-hectare Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay which will optimize land where premiere malls currently stand. Subsequent Estates are planned for SM City Clark in Angeles City, SM North EDSA, SM Lanang in Davao, SM Southmall and in its rising development SM Seaside City.
Panay Railways, Inc. is a government-owned and controlled corporation of the Philippines that formerly operated railway systems on the islands of Panay and Cebu. It is headquartered in La Paz, Iloilo City, and is a subsidiary of Phividec Railways, Inc. under the Philippine Veterans Investment Development Corporation (PHIVIDEC). While Panay Railways currently does not operate any trains, it leases its property, and the generated revenue is utilized to cover personnel and administrative costs associated with maintaining its assets.
Calle Real, officially named as J.M. Basa Street, is a historic street located in the old downtown district of Iloilo City Proper in Iloilo City, Philippines. It is home to several fine examples of luxury American-era neoclassical, beaux-arts, and art deco buildings. The street has been famous since the Spanish era and once served as the city's main shopping center for more than a century.
The (Old) Jaro Municipal Hall is a heritage building which previously served as the seat of government of the former city of Jaro in Iloilo province.
The George Cinema is a former Art Deco cinema on Bath Street in Portobello, Edinburgh. The building opened in 1939 as the County Cinema. For many years, a bingo hall, it is a Category C listed building.
The COVID-19 pandemic in Western Visayas is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus reached Western Visayas on March 20, 2020, when the first case of the disease was confirmed in Bacolod. All provinces have at least one confirmed COVID-19 case.
GeronimoPerez Treñas, publicly known as JerryTreñas, is a Filipino politician serving as the mayor of Iloilo City since 2019. He also previously served in that office from 2001 to 2010 and briefly in 1992. Treñas is also the chairman of the Metro Iloilo–Guimaras Economic Development Council (MIGEDC), the government agency responsible for the development of the Metro Iloilo–Guimaras area. He also previously served as the Representative of Iloilo City from 2010 to 2019 and was a member of the Iloilo City Council from 1986 to 1992.
