The contraforte is a proprietary instrument with a range similar to the contrabassoon produced by Benedikt Eppelsheim and Guntram Wolf. It is intended to have improved dynamics and intonation over the distinctive but sometimes reticent sound of the conventional contrabassoon. The contraforte uses a different and wider bore than the contrabassoon to produce a distinct tone; the sound is more even in strength and intonation across registers, remaining quite strong into the high register, unlike a contrabassoon. Also, it lacks the distinct "rattle" of a contrabassoon, although appropriate reed design can replicate this effect where desired.

It was founded by Barbara Fränzen and Peter Oswald in 1999, and in 2015, became part of Paladino Media, a company owned by Austrian cellist Martin Rummel. The label's main cover artists are Jakob Gasteiger, Erwin Bohatsch, and Enrique Fuentes.
The Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik is a music festival for contemporary chamber music, jointly organised by the town Witten in the Ruhr Area and the broadcasting station Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR). The concerts take place over a weekend at the end of April or in early May, and concentrate on world premieres of small-scale works, more than 600 as of 2010. They are broadcast worldwide via the European Broadcasting Union.

On the Guarding of the Heart for chamber orchestra is the most known instrumental work by Serbian-Swedish composer Djuro Zivkovic. The work was commissioned by the Klangforum Wien, written in 2011, and premiered on 14 November 2011 in the Terazije Theatre, Belgrade, during the International Composers' Festival held that year. The conductor for the premiere was Clement Power conducting the Klangforum Wien. The piece has received the world's largest prize for musical composition the Grawemeyer Award in 2014. Since its premiere, despite the complexity of the work, the piece was performed around the world more than 40 times. The music is composed during July–October 2011, partly in Gagnef and in Stockholm.
Klangspuren, also Klangspuren Schwaz, subtitled Tiroler Festival für Neue Musik, is an annual festival for contemporary music in Schwaz in Tyrol, founded in 1994. The title literally translates to "traces of sound". It commissioned around 200 orchestral and ensemble compositions as of 2020. The artistic director is Reinhard Kager.
