The Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing, Kurnool (IIITDM Kurnool) is a technical education institute in the field of Information Technology established by MHRD, Government of India in 2015. The institute started functioning at its permanent campus of in Kurnool. [1]

History

IIITDM Kurnool was established in 2015 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) as part as the government obligation under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. [2] The Indian Institutes of Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2017 granted Institutes of National Importance (INI) status to the institute in August 2017. [3] The Mission of IIITDM Kurnool is "To become a center of excellence pioneering in education, research & development, and leaders in design & manufacturing", the Vision is "To become a leading institute of higher learning in Information Technology enabled design & manufacturing to create technologies and technologists befitting the industries globally" and charter is "To carry out advanced research and development activities in design and manufacturing technologies, both on its own and on sponsorship basis for the industry".

Admission

Admission to the undergraduate program is based on the All India Rank obtained in the JEE Main examination conducted by National Testing Agency(NTA).

The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are autonomous public institutes of higher education, located in India. They are governed by the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007, which declared them as institutions of national importance alongside Indian Institutes of Technology. These institutes of national importance receive special recognition from the Government of India. The NIT Council is the supreme governing body of India's National Institutes of Technology (NIT) system and all 31 NITs are funded by the Government of India. These institutes are among the top-ranked engineering colleges in India and have one of the lowest acceptance rates for engineering institutes, of around 2 to 3 per cent, second only to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in India. Kurnool is the headquarters of Kurnool district. The city is often referred as The Gateway of Rayalaseema. As of 2011 census, it is the seventh most populous city in the state with a population of 484,327. It is located at the banks of the Tungabhadra river.

Deemed university, or deemed-to-be-university, is an accreditation awarded to higher educational institutions in India, conferring the status of a university. It is granted by the Department of Higher Education. To quote the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), "An Institution of Higher Education, other than universities, working at a very high standard in specific area of study, can be declared by the Central Government on the advice of the University Grants Commission (UGC), as an Institution 'Deemed-to-be-university'. The University Grants Commission of India is a statutory body set up by the Indian Union government in accordance to the UGC Act 1956 under Ministry of Human Resource Development, and is charged with coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of higher education. He was director of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and is in temporary charge of the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management Gwalior. From the year 2016, Professor Dhande is the Chairman, Board of Governors of National Institute of Technology Delhi and National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai, an Institute established by the Government of India in the year 1963.

Institute of National Importance (INI) is a status that may be conferred on a premier public higher education institution in India by an act of Parliament of India, an institution which "serves as a pivotal player in developing highly skilled personnel within the specified region of the country/state". National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007

The National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research Act, 2007 was enacted by the Parliament of India to declare India's National Institutes of Technology (NITs) as Institutes of National Importance. The Act received the assent of the President of India on 5 June 2007 and became effective on Independence Day, 2007. The National Institutes of Technology Act is the second law for technical education institutions after the Indian Institutes of Technology Act of 1961.

Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Kancheepuram

Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Kancheepuram is an Institute of National Importance established in 2007 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India to pursue design and manufacturing oriented engineering education, research and to promote the competitive advantage of Indian products in global markets. It was declared as an Institute of National Importance (INI) by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, in July 2011, thus becoming the first IIIT to be accorded this status. Later in 2014, IIIT Bill 2014 was passed by the Parliament on 1 December 2014, thus granting the status of Institutes of National Importance upon the 5 MHRD funded IIITs including IIITDM Kancheepuram. Previously IIITDM Kancheepuram was mentoring IIITDM Kurnool in its new campus at Chennai.
