State Road 56 in the U.S. state of Indiana is a route that travels the south central part of the state from west to east.
The western terminus of SR 56 is near Hazleton at U.S. Route 41. SR 56 heads northeast to Hazleton. After Hazleton SR 56 turns southeast then back northeast, until State Road 65 (SR 65). Where SR 56 heads east towards Petersburg, in Petersburg SR 56 is Concurrent with State Road 57 (SR 57), until the intersection with State Road 61 (SR 61). SR 56 leaves Petersburg concurrent with SR 61 heading south, until SR 56 turns east. South of Otwell SR 56 has an intersection with State Road 257. SR 56 enters Jasper on the west side and then has an intersection with U.S. Route 231, the two routes are concurrent until they leave Jasper on the north side of town. North of Jasper SR 56 turns east towards Paoli passing through French Lick. East of Paoli SR 56 heads towards Salem passing through an intersection with State Road 337 before passing by the entrance to Salem Speedway. SR 56 and State Road 60 have a concurrency from the west side of Salem to downtown Salem. SR 56 leaves Salem heading northeast, then turning east near the southern terminus of State Road 39 (SR 39). After SR 39, SR 56 passing over Interstate 65 (I-65). Then SR 56 enters Scottsburg where SR 56 has an intersection with U.S. Route 31. After leaving Scottsburg, SR 56 has a concurrency with State Road 203 and State Road 3. Then SR 56 heads toward Hanover where SR 56 and State Road 62 (SR 62) has a concurrency. East of Hanover SR 62 turns north and SR 56 heads east. East of the intersection with SR 62, SR 56 has an intersection with State Road 256 (SR 256). Then SR 56 enters Madison where SR 56 has an intersection with the southern terminus of State Road 7 and a concurrency with U.S. Route 421. East of Madison SR 56 parallels the Ohio River. Then in Vevay SR 56 has an intersection with the southern terminus of State Road 129 and the western terminus of State Road 156 (SR 156). After Vevay SR 56 heads north-northeast toward Aurora passing through intersection with State Road 250, SR 156, and State Road 262, passing through the town of Rising Sun. The northern terminus SR 56 is at an intersection with U.S. Route 50 and State Road 350. [3]
In the western part of Indiana SR 56 originally followed the same routing at current State Road 64 takes. In 1930 the east terminus of SR 56 was Lawrenceburg at U.S. Route 52, this route is now part of State Road 1. [4]
East of US 231 in northeastern Dubois County, SR 56 approximates part of the course of the Buffalo Trace (road), a migration route for buffalo that provided a major avenue for travel by Native Americans and Europeans in what is now Southern Indiana. [5] [6]

State Road 9 in the U.S. State of Indiana is a long north–south state highway in the eastern portion of Indiana. Its southern terminus is near Columbus at State Road 46, and the northern terminus is at the Michigan/Indiana border between Howe, Indiana, and Sturgis, Michigan, where it continues as M-66.
U.S. Route 360 is a spur of US 60 in the U.S. state of Virginia. The U.S. Highway runs 225.31 miles (362.60 km) from US 58 Business, Virginia State Route 293, and SR 360 in Danville east to SR 644 in Reedville. US 360 connects Danville, South Boston, and Keysville in Southside Virginia with the state capital of Richmond. The U.S. Highway also connects Richmond with Tappahannock on the Middle Peninsula and the eastern Northern Neck, where the highway serves as the primary route through Northumberland County. US 360 is a four-lane divided highway for almost all of its length.
State Road 18 (SR 18) in the U.S. State of Indiana is an east–west route in North Central Indiana running from the Illinois border in Benton County almost to the Ohio border, terminating at U.S. Route 27 (US 27)/State Road 67 (SR 67) in Jay County. State Route 18 is mainly a 2-lane road with exception of 4-lane divided highway from Marion to Interstate 69 (I-69). Marion is the only considerably large city that Route 18 passes through. State Route 18 runs just south of the lakes region, with Lake Shafer, Lake Freeman, Mississinewa Reservoir, and Salamonie Reservoir not too far to the north. With the exception of Marion, Route 18 passes through mostly small towns. The terrain is mostly level and is utilized mostly for agriculture.
Indiana State Road 44 (SR 44) in the State of Indiana begins in the west at Interstate 69 and State Road 37 (SR 37) in Martinsville and runs eastward to the Ohio state line in Union County in two broken sections. It is broken in Franklin from Indiana State Road 144 and Interstate 65.
State Road 60 in the U.S. State of Indiana is a mostly rural, two-lane highway in the southeastern portion of the state, covering a distance of about 62 miles (100 km).
State Road 61 is a 64-mile (103 km) north–south route that runs through portions of three counties in the southwest part of the U.S. State of Indiana.
State Road 129 (SR 129) is a part of the Indiana State Road that runs between Vevay and Batesville in the US state of Indiana. The 31.78 miles (51.14 km) of SR 129 that lie within Indiana serve as a minor highway. Some of the highway is listed on the National Highway System. Various sections are urban two-lane highway and rural two-lane highway. The highway passes through residential and commercial properties.
State Road 156 (SR 156) is a part of the Indiana State Road that runs between Vevay and Rising Sun, passing through Florence, in US state of Indiana. The 27.15 miles (43.69 km) of SR 156 that lie within Indiana serve as a minor highway. None of the highway is listed on the National Highway System. SR 156 is mostly a rural two-lane highway, passing through farmland and residential properties. SR 156 was first designated as a state road in 1931. The highway replaced the original State Road 58 designation of the highway which dated back to 1927. SR 58 ran from Vevay through Florence to Patriot and ended in Rising Sun.
State Road 236 in the U.S. State of Indiana exists in two sections. The western section starts at U.S. Route 41 (US 41) in Parke County, and runs eastward, paralleling its parent that lies to the south, U.S. Route 36 (US 36). In western Hendricks County it then turns to the southeast and ends at State Road 39 (SR 39), only two miles north of that road's intersection with US 36 in Danville.
State Road 250 (SR 250) in the U.S. State of Indiana is a secondary route that runs from U.S. Route 50 (US 50) in Brownstown eastward toward the Ohio River at State Road 156 (SR 156) in Patriot in southeast Indiana. Towns include Uniontown, Paris Crossing, Canaan, and East Enterprise. SR 250 is split in two north of Madison due to the Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge.
State Road 10 (SR 10) is an east–west road in northwest Indiana. Its western terminus is at the Illinois state line west of Lake Village. Its eastern terminus is at State Road 19 (SR 19) south of Etna Green.
State Road 25 is a highway in the U. S. state of Indiana. Although it is designated a north–south road, in practice it travels generally northeast from its southern terminus at State Road 32 to its northern terminus at State Road 15 in Warsaw.
State Route 360 is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. The state highway runs 41.77 miles (67.22 km) from U.S. Route 360, US 58 Business, and SR 293 in Danville east to US 360 and SR 344 near Scottsburg. SR 360 is the old alignment of US 360 through Danville, eastern Pittsylvania County, and Halifax County, including the latter's county seat of Halifax, before the U.S. Highway was moved to its present course mostly concurrent with US 58 via South Boston.
U.S. Route 50 (US 50) is a part of the United States Numbered Highway System that runs from West Sacramento, California, to Ocean City, Maryland. In the U.S. state of Indiana, it is part of the state road system. US 50 enters the state in Vincennes. The 171.38 miles (275.81 km) of US 50 that lie within Indiana serve as a major conduit. All of the highway is listed on the National Highway System. Various sections are rural two-lane highway, urbanized four-lane undivided highway and one-way streets. The easternmost community along the highway is Lawrenceburg at the Ohio state line. US 50 passes through urban areas, farmland and woodland.
Pennsylvania Route 156 is a 16.4-mile-long (26.4 km) state highway located in Westmoreland, Armstrong and Indiana Counties in Pennsylvania. The southern terminus is at PA 981 in Avonmore, PA. The northern terminus is at US 422/PA 56 in Shelocta.
State Road 58 is an east–west road in Central Indiana. State Road 58 runs from Merom in the west to Columbus in the east, a distance of approximately 122 miles (196 km). Along its route it has concurrencies with one U.S. Route and six other Indiana state roads.
U.S. Route 20 (US 20) in Indiana is a main east–west highway that is parallel to the Indiana Toll Road. The western terminus of US 20 is at the Illinois state line and the eastern terminus is at the Ohio state line. US 20 through Whiting, East Chicago, and Gary is concurrent with US 12 twice. The route varies between one-way, two-lane, and four-lane streets, in northwestern Indiana. From the east side of Gary to west of South Bend, US 20 is a four-lane undivided highway. The route then heads around the west and south sides of South Bend and Elkhart as a four-lane limited access divided highway. East of State Road 15 (IN-15), US 20 is two-lane rural highway.
U.S. Route 421 (US 421) enters Indiana from Kentucky, proceeding northwest to Indianapolis, joining Interstate 465, and then continuing northwest to Michigan City.
U.S. Route 231 in Indiana is a main north–south highway in the western part of the state. The southern terminus of US 231 is at the Kentucky state line and the northern terminus is at US 41 just south of St. John. The highway is a mixture of expressway and two-lane roadway. The expressway is mainly in southern Indiana and around the Lafayette area, with the rest mainly being two-lanes.
State Route 83 (SR 83) is an 86.5-mile-long (139.2 km) state highway that travels southwest to northeast, with a southeast–to–northwest section, within portions of Monroe, Jasper, Morgan, and Walton counties in the central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It connects Forsyth, Monticello, Madison, and Monroe. The portion from the southwestern city limits of Monticello to the Jasper–Morgan county line is included in the Monticello Crossroads Scenic Byway.
