The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), more commonly known as the International Baccalaureate (IB), is a nonprofit foundation headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and founded in 1968. It offers four educational programmes: the IB Diploma Programme and the IB Career-related Programme for students aged 16 to 19, the IB Middle Years Programme for students aged 12 to 16, and the IB Primary Years Programme for children aged 3 to 12. To teach these programmes, schools must be authorized by the International Baccalaureate.

It was developed in the early-to-mid-1960s in Geneva, Switzerland, by a group of international educators. After a six-year pilot programme that ended in 1975, a bilingual diploma was established.

International schools are private schools that promote education in an international environment or framework. Although there is no uniform definition or criteria, international schools are usually characterised by a multinational student body and staff, multilingual instruction, curricula oriented towards global perspectives and subjects, and the promotion of concepts such as world citizenship, pluralism, and intercultural understanding; most are private schools. Many international schools adopt a curriculum from programmes and organisations such as the International Baccalaureate, Edexcel, Cambridge International Education, FOBISIA, International Primary Curriculum, or Advanced Placement. International schools often follow a curriculum different from the host country, catering mainly to foreign students, such as members of expatriate communities, international businesses or organisations, diplomatic missions, or missionary programmes. Admission is sometimes open to local students to provide qualifications for employment or higher education in a foreign country, offer high-level language instruction, and/or foster cultural and global awareness.
Utahloy International School Guangzhou (UISG) is a school with English-language class instruction in Baiyun District, Guangzhou. UISG serves students aged 2 to 19 from over 50 different countries. There are seven major native languages, including English, Chinese, Korean, French, Japanese, German, and Spanish. The school offers three types of programs: Primary Year, Middle Year, and Diploma. An average of 18 students per class, with a teacher-to-student ratio of 1 to 8.
The United Nations International School (UNIS) is a private international school in New York City which was established in 1947. Many members of the United Nations staff arriving with young families found unexpected difficulties with the school system in New York. Among them was K. T. Behanan and his wife, who arrived from India in May 1947 with their five-year-old son to help the UN's Trusteeship Council with educational policy. The Behanans banded together with other UN families who were in a similar situation to establish the United Nations International School at Lake Success, with Dr. Behanan as chairman of its board. The school was founded to provide an international education for students, while preserving its students' diverse cultural heritages. Today, UNIS has over 1,600 students in one campus in Manhattan, close to the Headquarters of the United Nations. The Manhattan campus, overlooking the East River, is K-12; until 2022, the school also ran a K-8 school at a campus in Jamaica Estates, Queens.
The International School of Hamburg, known to the school community as ISH, is a private international school in the West of Hamburg. ISH combines the IPC, the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), the IB Career Related Programme (CP) , and the IB Diploma Programme . The International School of Hamburg was founded in 1957 as the first international school in Germany. ISH is a non-profit organization and remains the only Council of International Schools-accredited organisation in Hamburg. In 2010, ISH moved to its current, purpose-built campus, at Hemmingstedter Weg in Hamburg-Osdorf. An extensive expansion was built in 2015. The school currently has a combined enrolment of approximately 760 students aged 3 to 19 from over 55 countries.
Harare International School (HIS) is an international, co-educational, day school in Harare, Zimbabwe with around 400 students from pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade. HIS is the only authorized school in Zimbabwe offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum from Early Childhood through to Grade 12. The IB programmes offered are the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the Diploma Programme (DP).
The International School of Düsseldorf e.V. (ISD) is a nonprofit, independent, coeducational day school located in Kaiserswerth, Germany, a historic suburb of Düsseldorf. (A)ISD was founded in 1968 as the American International School of Düsseldorf, an English language school to meet the needs of non-military expatriate families. In 1977, it became the 65th school worldwide authorized to award the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. In 1986, the school changed its name to the International School of Düsseldorf.
Nanjing International School is a non-profit International school in Xian Lin College and University Town (仙林大学城), Qixia District, Nanjing, enrolling children age 3 to 18 from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12. It has around 620 students from over 30 countries.
Western Academy of Beijing is an international school located in Beijing. Founded in 1994, the school provides education from early years 3 to grade 12. WAB uses the IB PYP until Grade 5, IB MYP up to and including grade 10, and the IB DP for grades 11 and 12.
International School of Aleppo (ISA) founded in 1977, was an English language school in Aleppo and the only International Baccalaureate World School in Syria. It offered the IB Primary Years Programme and IB Diploma Programme. The school's other major programs included International General Certificate of Secondary Education for ninth and tenth-graders. As of April 2012, the school is no longer open due to the ongoing Syrian Civil War.
The Bavarian International School gAG (BIS) is an English-language International Baccalaureate-curriculum international school based in Haimhausen, a municipality in the district Dachau in Bavaria, Germany, just north of Munich. In 2016, a second campus in Munich-Schwabing (Leopoldstraße) was opened for primary students. The school currently has a combined enrolment of approximately 1200 students aged 3 to 18 from over 52 countries speaking more than 70 languages. The 2-campus-school is run by the non-profit association Bavarian International School gAG
International School Dhaka (ISD) is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in Dhaka, Bangladesh that was established in 1999. The school enrolls students in the age range of 2–18, from Playgroup through to Grade 12, providing an international education for local and expatriate children living in Bangladesh. There are over 70 international teachers or administrators from about 20 different nationalities. The school is recognized by the Bangladesh Ministry of Education and is accredited by the Council of International Schools, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization.
The International School of Zug and Luzern (ISZL) is a private, coeducational, non-profit day school in Switzerland for students aged 3 to 18 in the greater Zurich area. Founded in 1961, the school enrolls about 1,200 students from more than 50 nationalities, aiming to offer an international educational experience through the International Baccalaureate Program (IB). Located in Zug, approximately 34 kilometers from Zurich and 25 kilometers from Lucerne, ISZL currently operates two campuses and also owns a Chalet located in Wengen in the Bernese Alps. Until 2016, the School also had a campus in Lucerne.

The school delivers the curriculum primarily in English and French and the academic program is based on the French educational system. Dallas International is regionally accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS). In 2016, DIS was ranked by the Washington Post as #24 in the nation for "America's Most Challenging High Schools. It is currently ranked #5 in top private schools in Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex by Niche.
The International School Augsburg (ISA) is an English-speaking private all-day school in Gersthofen, a town near Augsburg. As an “IB World School” the ISA belongs to a worldwide network of international co-educative schools which offer the International Baccalaureate in English. Established in 2005, the ISA is the only international school within an area of around 60 kilometres around Augsburg. In school year 2011/2012, 320 students were taught by 50 teachers from 15 nations.
American School Hong Kong is a co-educational American international school located at 6 Ma Chung Road, in Tai Po, New Territories, Hong Kong. It is owned and operated by Esol Education and enrolled its first students in August 2016. It offers classes in elementary, middle school and high school, through to Grade 12. Its Grade 9 class opens in August 2019, grade 10 opened in 2020 and grade 11 opened in 2021 with a new fifth floor.
