It was released on 8 January 2013, in China. It was the opening film at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival in February 2013. The film was selected as part of the 2013 Hong Kong International Film Festival. The Weinstein Company acquired the international distribution rights for the film. The film was selected as the Hong Kong entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards, making the January shortlist, but ultimately did not receive the nomination. Despite this, the film was nominated for Best Cinematography and Best Costume Design.

Chasing the Dragon, previously known as King of Drug Dealers, is a Hong Kong-Chinese action crime drama film directed by Wong Jing and Jason Kwan. The film stars Donnie Yen as Crippled Ho, based on real life gangster Ng Sik-ho and Andy Lau reprising his role as Lee Rock from the film series of the same name. The film is about an illegal immigrant from China who sneaks into British-colonized Hong Kong in 1963 and transforms himself into a ruthless and emerging drug lord. The film is a remake of the 1991 film To Be Number One.

The film also features Mike Tyson. Principal photography commenced in March 2015 and ended in June of that year.

The film co-stars Teresa Mo and Niki Chow. The film was announced as a remake of Sammo Hung's 1978 film of the same name, but is not.

New Kung Fu Cult Master 1 is a 2022 Hong Kong-Chinese wuxia film directed by Wong Jing and Venus Keung adapted from Louis Cha's novel The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber. It is a follow-up to the 1993 film Kung Fu Cult Master. The film stars Louis Koo, Donnie Yen, Raymond Lam, Janice Man, Yun Qianqian and Sabrina Qiu.
