"It's a Rainy Day" is a song by British, Italy based Eurodance artist Ice MC, released in August 1994 by Italian label Dance World Attack as the third single from his third album, Ice'n'Green (1994), on which it appears in two versions, and his eleventh single overall. Written and produced by Robyx, it features vocals by Italian singer Alexia. It became the most successful single of the album, reaching number-one in Italy and number two in both Belgium and Spain. The single was also released with new remixes for the Christmas holidays. Giacomo de Simone directed its accompanying music video, which was filmed in Italy with Alexia.

Chart performance

"It's a Rainy Day" was a hit on the charts in Europe and remains one of Ice MC's most successful songs, alongside "Think about the Way". It peaked at number-one in Italy, as well as on the European Dance Radio Chart. [1] The single entered the top 10 also in Belgian Flanders (2), Finland (9), France (6), the Netherlands (8) and Spain (2), as well as on the Eurochart Hot 100, where it peaked at number six in December 1994. [2] In Belgium, "It's a Rainy Day" was held off reaching the number-one position for two weeks by Rednex's "Cotton Eye Joe". Additionally, the song was a top-20 hit in Austria (13), Germany (14) and Switzerland (15). In the United Kingdom, it peaked at number 73 in its first week on the UK Singles Chart, on April 2, 1995. [3] But on the UK Dance Chart, the single fared better, reaching number 25. Outside Europe, "It's a Rainy Day" peaked at number six on the RPM Dance/Urban chart in Canada and number 11 in Israel.

The single was awarded with a silver record in France, with a sale of 132,000 units.

Critical reception

A reviewer from Music Week gave "It's a Rainy Day" three out of five, writing that "this dance track has been a hit in a few European countries and uses the familiar formula of diggedy doggedy vocal over a thumping beat." [4] James Hamilton from the Record Mirror Dance Update described it as an "Italian galloper". [5]

Music video

The accompanying music video for "It's a Rainy Day" was directed by Giacomo de Simone [6] and filmed in Castello Malaspina, Massa in Italy. [7] Unlike "Think about the Way", also directed by de Simone, it featured Italian singer Alexia. The video was A-listed on Germany's VIVA in November 1994. [8] Later it was made available on YouTube in 2014, and had received almost 40 million views as of early 2024. [9]

In Israel, it peaked at number one for two weeks. "Rock My Heart" shot into the Eurochart Hot 100 at number 17 on 9 April 1994 and peaked at seven four weeks later.

Bortolotti produced the song and it achieved success in many countries, particularly in Finland, Israel, the Netherlands and Switzerland, where it topped the charts. It was produced by Roberto Zanetti, also known as Robyx, and was written by Zanetti and Ice MC, though many releases credit Zanetti as the sole writer. The female vocals were performed by Italian singer Alexia, though she was also uncredited and doesn't appear in the music video for the song, directed by Giacomo de Simone. The song was very successful in Europe, reaching the top 5 in Belgium and Italy, and the top 15 in Denmark, France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden and the Netherlands. In the UK and Ireland, it was released under the title "Think About the Way ", which it refers to the first words of the first verse.

"Take Away the Colour" is a 1993 song by British Eurodance artist Ice MC. It was released as the first single from his third album, Ice'n'Green (1994), on which it appears as third track, and his ninth single overall. It was written and produced by Robyx, while the female vocals were performed by Simona Jackson. Jasmin Heinrich appeared in the music video and in live performances lip-synching to Jackson's vocals. The song was reissued a year later, in 1995, in a new version entitled "Take Away the Colour ", however, this version is performed by Alexia. The first version was more successful, reaching the top 20 in Austria, Belgium, Italy and Sweden, while both versions reached number 31 in France. The B-side featuring on the various formats of the 1995 release is a megamix composed by ICE MC's hit single "Think about the Way", "It's a Rainy Day" and "Take Away the Colour". This megamix was the next single in France and was only released in this country.

The vocals were by Diane Charlemagne, who had provided the vocal for the band's previous hit and their subsequent singles. Its accompanying music video was directed by British director Lindy Heymann, featuring the band performing on the beach.

"Tears Don't Lie" is a song by German DJ Mark 'Oh, released in as the third single from his debut album, Never Stop That Feeling (1995). The song uses the same melody best known in English-speaking countries as "When a Child is Born", which when originally a number-one hit in Germany for Michael Holm in 1974 was called "Tränen lügen nicht" or "Tears Don't Lie", which is a cover of the Italian Instrumental "Soleado" by Ciro Dammicco. "Tears Don't Lie" peaked at number-one in Austria, Belgium, Germany, and Sweden and was a top 10 hit across continental Europe and Ireland. Additionally, "Everybody" was a top 10 hit in Iceland and the Netherlands, peaking at number eight and ten, respectively. The female vocals are performed by Jennifer Rüsch.
