The Jair Bolsonaro 2022 presidential campaign was officialized on 24 July 2022 in Rio de Janeiro. His running mate is former Minister of Defence Walter Braga Netto. Incumbent president Jair Bolsonaro, elected in 2018 for the first term, is a candidate for re-election for the second term.

Background

On 26 June 2022, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) announced in an interview in Jovem Pan News program Programa 4x4 that he would nominate Walter Braga Netto (PL) as his running mate for the 2022 presidential election. [1] On 24 July 2022, the Liberal Party confirmed both Bolsonaro and Braga Netto candidacies. It was held in Maracanãzinho Gymnasium, North Side of Rio de Janeiro. [2]

On 8 August, Bolsonaro was interviewed in Flow Podcast , where he criticized the Supreme Federal Court and Petrobras. [3] The streaming reached a peak of more than 558,000 viewers. [4]

She previously was Senator for Mato Grosso do Sul from 2015 to 2023, Vice-Governor of Mato Grosso do Sul from 2011 to 2014, and mayor of Três Lagoas from 2005 to 2010. A member of the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB), of which she was the leader in the Senate from 2018 to 2019, Tebet was the MDB candidate for president in the 2022 Brazilian general election, placing third with 4.16% of the vote. After endorsing Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in the second round, Tebet was appointed Minister of Planning.

The 2018 presidential campaign of Jair Bolsonaro was announced on 3 March 2016. Brazilian federal deputy and former military officer Jair Bolsonaro became the official nominee of the Social Liberal Party during their convention on 22 July 2018. The running mate decision came later on 8 August, when General Hamilton Mourão was chosen to compose the ticket with Bolsonaro. By choosing Mourão as running mate Bolsonaro secured a coalition with the Brazilian Labour Renewal Party.

The 2020 São Paulo municipal election took place in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, with the first round taking place on 15 November 2020 and the second round taking place on 29 November 2020. Voters voted to elect the Mayor, the Vice Mayor and 55 city councillors for the administration of the city. The result was a 2nd round victory for incumbent Mayor Bruno Covas of the Brazilian Social Democratic Party (PSDB), winning 3,169,121 votes and a share of 59,38% of the popular vote, defeating political activist Guilherme Boulos of the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL), who took 2,168,109 votes and a share of 40.62% of the popular vote.

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received the majority of the votes in the second round and became president-elect of Brazil.

The 2022 Bahia state election took place in the state of Bahia, Brazil on 2 October 2022. The elections saw voters choose a Governor and Vice Governor, one Senator, 39 representatives for the Chamber of Deputies, and 63 Legislative Assembly members. The incumbent Governor, Rui Costa, of the Workers' Party (PT), was not eligible for a third term since he ran for governor in 2014 and 2018. In a significant upset, PT nominee and Secretary of Education Jerônimo led Mayor of Salvador ACM Neto in the first round of elections despite the vast majority of registered opinion polls indicating the leadership or even outright victory of Neto. In the end, Jerônimo obtained 49.45% of valid votes to ACM's 40.8%; less than a percentage point within of winning the election in the first round. Nevertheless, as no candidate obtained a majority of the vote, there will be a second round election on October 30 2022.

The 2022 Ceara Gubernatorial election was held in the state of Ceará, Brazil on Sunday October 2. Voters elected the President and Vice President of the Republic, a Governor, Vice Governor of the State and a Senator of the Republic with two alternates, in addition to 22 Federal Deputies and 46 State Deputies. Those elected will take office on January 1 or February 1 of 2023 for terms on office lasting for four years.

Former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's presidential campaign was officially approved on 21 July 2022 in São Paulo. His running mate is former Governor of São Paulo Geraldo Alckmin. Lula was elected in 2002 for the first term and re-elected in 2006 for the second term and is a candidate for tri-election for the third term, after his successors, former president Dilma Rousseff, having been elected in 2010 for the first term and re-elected in 2014 for the second term and former mayor of São Paulo, Fernando Haddad, having been defeated in 2018.
