Jayabaya is an passenger train with the executive and economy class that is operated by Kereta Api Indonesia which between Pasar Senen and Malang via Semarang Poncol and Surabaya Pasar Turi around 817 km (507 mil) in 12 hours 21 minutes.
The Jayabaya train will stopped at Semarang Poncol, not Semarang Tawang.
There are two versions of the origin of the brand name Jayabaya. The first is that the name is taken from the name of King Jayabhaya who ruled the Keraja Kadiri in the period 1135-1159 AD. This period is considered the golden age of the Keraja Kadiri. The second is that the name comes from the acronym of the destination cities where this train service was first opened, namely Jakarta Raya and Surabaya.
The Jayabaya train was launched on 18 October 2014 in Pasar Senen station by KAI President Director Ignasius Jonan. [1] [2] At that time, the Jayabaya train only offered economy class plus the original livery (which became the "consensus livery" for all trains in Indonesia). The train then added executive class on 1 December 2019. [3]
The Jayabaya train is the train on the Pasar Senen–Malang route with the shortest travel time compared to others, because it passes through the entire northern Java route. [4]
Start on 26 September 2023, the Jayabaya train is the first to use the latest generation of economy class trains, modified by Balai Yasa, with 72 seats. The trains were originally 80-seat Ministry of Transportation economy class sets, which were later modified by Balai Yasa Manggarai. [5]
On 16 October 2024, the Jayabaya train has officially undergone a change in facilities by using second-generation stainless steel train sets manufactured in 2024 by PT INKA. The train sets are numbered TSB-15 and TSB-16, consisting of four executive classes, four economy classes, one dining car, and one power car.
Since the enactment of new train travel chart 2025 on 1 February 2025, the Jayabaya train uses an operating pattern of exchanging train sets with the Gaya Baru Malam Selatan train, so that the train number TSB-16 was transferred to the Sidotopo Main Depot in Surabaya, East Java.
Although the train set has changed position, the operation of the Jayabaya train is still managed by Operations Area I Jakarta. The same thing also happened to the Dharmawangsa Express, and Tegal Bahari, where the train is managed by Operations Area I Jakarta, but uses a set that isn't located at the main depot located in Operations Area I Jakarta.
Meanwhile, the train numbered TSB-15 remains at Jakarta Kota Train Depot for backup and additional train purposes. In February 2025, starting 6 February the TSB-15 train was allocated for the operation of the Batavia route Gambir–Solo Balapan).
