The Paralympic Games or Paralympics, also known as the Games of the Paralympiad, is a periodic series of international multisport events involving athletes with a range of disabilities. There are Winter and Summer Paralympic Games, which since the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, are held almost immediately following the respective Olympic Games. All Paralympic Games are governed by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
The 1964 Summer Paralympics, originally known as the 13th International Stoke Mandeville Games and also known as Paralympic Tokyo 1964, were the second Paralympic Games to be held. They were held in Tokyo, Japan, and were the last Summer Paralympics to take place in the same city as the Summer Olympics until the 1988 Summer Paralympics.
Russia has competed at the Paralympic Games as different teams in its history. The nation competed as part of the Soviet Union at the 1988 Summer and Winter Games, while after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, Russia competed as part of the Unified Team in 1992. The nation competed for a first time as Russia at the 1994 Winter Paralympics, and after that participated in every summer and winter edition up until the 2014 Winter Paralympics.
El Salvador first competed in the Paralympic Games at the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney, Australia. It has participated in the Summer Paralympic Games every four years since that time. El Salvador has never taken part in the Winter Paralympics, and until Tokyo 2020, no Salvadorian had won a Paralympic medal. In 2021, Herbert Aceituno became the first athlete to win a medal, earning bronze in powerlifting at the 59 kg category.
The World Para Athletics Championships, known as the IPC Athletics World Championships prior to 2017, are a biennial Paralympic athletics event organized by World Para Athletics, a subcommittee of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). It features athletics events contested by athletes with physical disabilities. The first IPC Athletics World Championships were held in Berlin, Germany in 1994.
Nathan Stephens is a Welsh former Paralympian athlete competing mainly in category F57–58 throwing events. He was until September 2012 the world record holder in the F57 javelin throw.
Eliseu dos Santos is a Paralympic boccia player of Brazil who competes in the BC4 category. He took up the sport in 2005. At the 2008 and 2012 Paralympics he won individual bronze medals and shared gold medals in pairs with Dirceu Pinto. At the 2016 Paralympics he won a silver medal in the mixed pairs.
Claudiney Batista dos Santos is a Brazilian Paralympian athlete competing in category F57/T57 throwing events. He won a silver medal in the javelin throw at the 2012 Paralympics and a gold medal in the discus throw at the 2016 Rio Games.
The United States competed at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 7 September to 18 September 2016. The first places the team qualified were for three athletes in sailing events. They also qualified athletes in archery, goalball, shooting, swimming, and wheelchair basketball.
Ella Azura Pardy is an Australian Paralympic athlete who competes in the T38 100m, 200m and long jump. She represented Australia at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in long jump and the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships. She represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics in athletics where she won a bronze medal and the 2020 Summer Paralympics.

Jerusa Geber dos Santos is a visually impaired Brazilian sprinter. Competing in the T11 classification, Geber has competed at two Summer Paralympic Games, winning two silver and a bronze medal. She is also a multiple World Championships and Parapan American medalist, taking ten medals over five tournaments. She qualified for the 2020 Summer Paralympics, in Women's 100m T11, and Women's 200m T11.
Jhulia dos Santos is a visually impaired Brazilian sprinter. Competing in the T11 classification, Dos Santos represented Brazil at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London winning a bronze medal in the 100m sprint. She is also a multiple World Championships and Parapan American medalist, taking five medals over four tournaments.
Panama sent a delegation to compete at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 7–18 September 2016. This was the nation's seventh time competing in the Summer Paralympic Games after it first entered the movement at the 1992 Summer Paralympics. The Panamanian delegation to Rio de Janeiro consisted of two athletes: shot put thrower Francisco Cedeño Almengor and javelin thrower Iveth Valdes Romero. Almengor ranked eleventh out of twelve athletes in the men's shot put F54–55 competition and Romero placed in the same position in the women's javelin F55–F56 event.
Athletes have competed as Independent Paralympians at the Paralympic Games for various reasons, including political transition, international sanctions, suspensions of National Paralympic Committees and compassion.
Kovan Abdulraheem is an Iraqi Paralympic athlete of short stature and he competes in F41-classification throwing events.
Cláudia Cicero dos Santos Sabino is a Brazilian adaptive rower who competes in international elite events. She is a World champion and has competed at the Paralympic Games three times.
Thalita Vitória Simplício da Silva is a Brazilian Paralympic athlete who competes in sprinting and long jump events at international elite events. She is a Paralympic silver medalist, a six-time Parapan American Games silver medalist and a World champion in sprinting.
Maria Odete Ferreira Fiúza is a Portuguese Paralympic athlete who competes in international elite events. She specialises in the marathon. She has competed at six Paralympic Games from 2000 to 2020 Summer Paralympics.
Snowboarding was one of the competitions at the 2022 Winter Paralympics in Beijing, China. In total, eight medal events were held.
