Jetwing Jaffna (Jetwing Yarl) is a hotel in the city of Jaffna in northern Sri Lanka. The seven-storey 55 room star class hotel is located in the heart of the city on Mahatma Gandhi Road (former Clock Tower Road), next to Cargills Square. [1] [2] [3] The hotel was built on land purchased in 1975 by N. U. Jayawardena, former governor of the Central Bank of Ceylon. [4] [5] Originally intended to be a fourteen-storey 76 room hotel, construction began in February 2012. [6] [7] Owned by Yarl Hotels, a joint venture between Jetwing Hotels and MMBL Group (Mercantile Merchant Banking Limited), the Rs. 1 billion hotel opened in April 2016. [8] [9]

The Northern Province is one of the nine provinces of Sri Lanka, the first level administrative division of the country. The provinces have existed since the 19th century but did not have any legal status until 1987 when the 13th Amendment to the Constitution of Sri Lanka established provincial councils. Between 1988 and 2006 the province was temporarily merged with the Eastern Province to form the North Eastern Province. The capital of the province is Jaffna. Northern line (Sri Lanka)

The northern line is a railway line in Sri Lanka. Branching off the Main Line at Polgahawela Junction the line heads north through North Western, North Central and Northern provinces before terminating at the northern port of Kankesanthurai. The line is 339 kilometres (211 mi) long and has 55 stations between Polgahawela Junction and Vavuniya. It is the longest railway line in Sri Lanka. The line opened in 1894. Major cities served by the line include Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Vavuniya and Jaffna. The popular Yal Devi service operates on the line. The line was severely affected by the civil war and no services operated north of Vavuniya after 1990. Reconstruction of this section of the line commenced following the end of the civil war in 2009 and was fully completed in early 2015.

Cargills Square Shopping mall in Sri Lanka

Cargills Square is a shopping mall in the city of Jaffna in northern Sri Lanka. The mall is located in the heart of the city at the junction of Hospital Street and Mahathma Gandhi Road, opposite Jaffna Hospital. Work on the Rs.500 million shopping and entertainment complex started in September 2011. The mall opened in the last quarter of 2013. The mall was designed by the Colombo based MMGS Architects.

Subhas Hotel

Subhas Hotel is a hotel in the city of Jaffna in northern Sri Lanka. The 36 room hotel is located in the heart of the city on Victoria Road, opposite Jaffna Hospital. Built in 1970, the hotel had a monopoly on the Jaffna peninsula for two decades. During the civil war the hotel was occupied by the Sri Lankan military for 16 years. The hotel was handed back to the owners in 2011 and re-opened in 2012.

Gnanams Hotel is a hotel in the city of Jaffna in northern Sri Lanka. The 32 room hotel is located in the heart of the city on Clock Tower Road, near Jaffna Hospital. Built in 1982, during the civil war the hotel was occupied by the Sri Lankan military for 24 years. The hotel was handed back to the owners in 2011.

Tilko Jaffna City Hotel is a hotel in the city of Jaffna in northern Sri Lanka. The four-storey 42 room hotel is located in the heart of the city on K.K.S. Road, near Jaffna Fort. Owned by British property developer Thilak T. Thilagaraj, the hotel opened in November 2010. The hotel was built with the support of the Board of Investment.

Jetwing Hotels Limited is a Sri Lankan hotel chain. Jetwing was founded in the 1970s by Herbert Cooray when he purchased the Blue Oceanic Hotel in Negombo from its Swedish owner Vingressor and renamed it Jetwing. Cooray founded Jetwing Travels in 1981. Jetwing Hotels' current chairman, Hiran Cooray, is the son of Herbert Cooray.

The Uthuru Janani Power Station is a 24-megawatt thermal power station commissioned on 1 January 2013, in Chunnakam, Sri Lanka. Built and operated by the Ceylon Electricity Board for Rs. 3.5 billion, the power station costs Rs. 17.86 to generate one unit of electricity.
