John Dawson Eccles,2nd Viscount Eccles, CBE (born 20 April 1931),is a British Conservative peer and businessman. He is one of the ninety-two hereditary peers elected to remain in the House of Lords after the passing of the House of Lords Act 1999.
The son of the 1st Viscount Eccles and Sybil Dawson,he was educated at Winchester College and Magdalen College,Oxford,where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy,politics and economics in 1954. He served in the 1st Battalion (60th Rifles),King's Royal Rifle Corps,reaching the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.
In 1985,he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE);and since 1989 a DSc (Silsoe). On 24 February 1999,he entered his inheritance. Lord Eccles entered the House of Lords upon its reform;however,due to the House of Lords Act,he was soon obliged to vacate his position in the House. He was later invited to election as one of the 92 remaining hereditary peers in a by-election forced by the death of the 4th Baron Aberdare,and returned to the House in 2005.
Lord Eccles married Diana Catherine Sturge 29 January 1955,in Bletchingley,Surrey. They have four children:
Viscountess Eccles was created a life peer in her own right in 1990 as Baroness Eccles of Moulton,and so also sits in the House of Lords. They are one of the few couples who both hold peerages in their own right.

Earl Ferrers is a title in the Peerage of Great Britain. It was created in 1711 for Robert Shirley,14th Baron Ferrers of Chartley. The Shirley family descends from George Shirley of Astwell Castle,Northamptonshire. In 1611 he was created a Baronet,of Staunton Harold in the County of Leicester,in the Baronetage of England. He was succeeded by his son Henry,the second Baronet,who married Lady Dorothy Devereux,daughter of Robert Devereux,2nd Earl of Essex. On the death of her brother Robert Devereux,3rd Earl of Essex,she became the youngest co-heir to the baronies of Ferrers of Chartley and the barony of Bourchier,which had fallen into abeyance on the death of the third Earl. Shirley was succeeded by his eldest son,the third Baronet. He died unmarried and was succeeded by his younger brother,the fourth Baronet. He was imprisoned in the Tower of London by Oliver Cromwell and died there in 1656. On his death the title passed to his eldest son,the fifth Baronet. He died at an early age and was succeeded at birth by his posthumous son,the sixth Baronet.
Viscount Eccles,of Chute in the County of Wiltshire,England,is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 14 January 1964 for the Conservative politician David Eccles,1st Baron Eccles. He had already been created Baron Eccles,of Chute in the County of Wiltshire,on 1 August 1962. As of 2017 the titles are held by his son,the second Viscount,who succeeded in 1999. He is one of the ninety elected hereditary peers that remain in the House of Lords after the passing of the House of Lords Act 1999,and sits as a Conservative. His wife Diana Eccles was created a life peer as Baroness Eccles of Moulton,of Moulton in the County of North Yorkshire,on 10 May 1990,making the couple an unusual husband and wife pair both sitting in the House of Lords. Lady Eccles of Moulton also sits on the Conservative benches.
