John Longworth (born 14 May 1958) is a British business consultant and politician. He was the director-general of the British Chambers of Commerce from September 2011 until March 2016,when he departed in controversy by breaking with the organisation's line on Brexit on the day of its conference.
Longworth was the co-chairman of Leave Means Leave with Richard Tice. [2] He was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Yorkshire and the Humber from 2019 to 2020.
John Longworth was born in May 1958 [3] and was educated at Smithills School,Bolton,and the University of Salford,where he obtained bachelor's and master's degrees. [4] [5] He is a chartered company secretary and has a postgraduate certificate in microbiology.
A media commentator and writer,he now advises organisations in the financial sector and others and is on the Advisory Councils of Hottinger Group,the Institute of Economic Affairs and the Advisory Board of Economists for Free Trade.[ citation needed ] [6]
In March 2016,he became the only leader of a major business group,the BCC,to back leaving the EU. Since this went against the position the BCC and its members had agreed to take on the referendum he was suspended as Director General. He subsequently resigned and volunteered to lead the business campaign to leave the EU,as chairman of the Vote Leave Business Council. In 2016,he became the co-chairman of Leave Means Leave,a lobby group set up to promote a hard Brexit. [7] [8] [9] In October 2017,Longworth and Richard Tice,Treasurer and Co-Chairman of Leave Means Leave,were jointly placed at Number 90 on the list of 'The Top 100 Most Influential on the Right'. [10]
On 15 April 2019,Longworth announced he would be standing as a candidate for the Brexit Party. [11] In the 2019 European Parliament election,he was elected a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Yorkshire and the Humber. In July 2019 he became a member of the European Parliament Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and of the European Parliament Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection. [12] He was expelled from the Brexit Party and lost the party whip in December 2019 for "repeatedly undermining their general election strategy." [13]

Nigel Paul Farage is a British politician and broadcaster who has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Clacton and Leader of Reform UK since 2024,having previously been its leader from 2019 to 2021. He was the leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) from 2006 to 2009 and 2010 to 2016. Farage served as a member of the European Parliament (MEP) for South East England from 1999 until the UK's withdrawal from the European Union (EU) in 2020.

Since 2023,he has also been Reform UK's energy and foreign-policy spokesman. He became the leader of Reform UK in March 2021,but stood down in June 2024 and was succeeded by Nigel Farage.

Reform UK is a right-wing populist political party in the United Kingdom. Nigel Farage has served as the party's leader since June 2024 and Richard Tice has served as the party's deputy leader since July 2024. The party currently has five members of Parliament (MPs) in the House of Commons and one member of the London Assembly. The party also holds representation at the local government level,with most of its local councillors having defected from the Conservative Party to Reform UK. Following Farage's resumption of the leadership during the 2024 general election,there was a sharp increase in support for the party. Following the election,it was the third largest party by popular vote,with 4,117,610 votes achieving 14.3 per cent of the vote in total.

Benyamin Naeem Habib is a Pakistani-British politician,who served from 2023 to July 2024 as Co-Deputy Leader of Reform UK,alongside David Bull. He and Bull were removed from their positions and replaced by Richard Tice as the new Deputy Leader following the 2024 general election. He was elected as a Brexit Party Member of the European Parliament (MEP) in the 2019 European parliamentary election. He remained in the role until the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the EU. Before becoming involved with Reform UK,Habib was a Conservative Party donor.
Lucy Elizabeth Harris is a British Conservative Party politician and advisor. She was elected as a Brexit Party Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the Yorkshire and the Humber constituency in the 2019 European parliamentary election. She held this role until the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the EU. Prior to her political career,she worked in publishing as a corporate communications executive for The Quarto Group,and later the Greater London Authority.
