Josh Boateng (born 28 March 1997) is a Grenadian shot put and discus thrower. He is the Grenadian national record holder in both events [1] and the national junior record holder in the discus.

College career

2018

On 20 January 2018, Boateng broke the national record (Indoor) Shot Put throw of 16.77m at the Pima Aztec Indoor Invitational in Tucson, Arizona. [2] On 24 March 2018 he reset the Outdoor Shot Put Record with a throw of 17.78m at the UTEP Springtime Invitational. [3] He further improved on the Shot Put record on 3 May at the NJCAA Region I Track & Field Championships in Mesa, Arizona with a throw of 18.08m. [4] He further went on to increase to 18.11m in a second-place finish at the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Championships and won the discus competition with a throw of 55.97m.[ citation needed ]

2019

Boateng began his 2019 season representing Texas A&M University-Commerce at the Pittsburg State Invitational on 26 January. [5] His 17.41m throw served as both a new school record as well as a Grenadian Indoor Record. He went on to improve on those records with a 17.77 throw at the Gorilla Classic on 9 February. [6] He went on to win the Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships at Texas Tech University on February 17 with a 17.69m performance at Shot Put. [7]

On March 29 at the Texas Relays, Boateng equalled his own National Record in the Shot Put. He also had a 56.80m [8] performance in the Discus. [9] As a result of these performances he was to be named Lone Star Conference Athlete of the Week for the second time. [10] The following week Boateng claimed the National Discus Record with a throw of 59.37 thus breaking the 15-year-old record. [11] He earn a third consecutive Lone Star Conference co-Field Athlete of the Week nod for his efforts. [12] On 11 April at the East Texas Invitational he further extended his National Record to 60.77m, breaking a 36-year-old school record. [13] He received his fourth consecutive selection as athlete of the week in the Lonestar Conference. [14] On April 25, 2019, at Abilene Christian University's Oliver Jackson Twilight, Boateng extended his National and School Record in the Discus Throw to 61m. He first Athlete from his school to ever go over 200 feet at 61.00 meters (200-1), notching the fourth-longest throw in Division II history. [15] [16] Following this performance he was named USTFCCCA Division II athlete of the week [17] [18] He went on to be named USTFCCCA South Central Region Field Athlete of the Year. [19]

2020

Boateng opened his 2020 campaign at the Corky Classic hosted by Texas Tech. He earned a provisional mark in the men's shot put at 16.50 meters (54-1 ¾) on his first throw of the season, ranking 17th in the nation. [20] [21]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Texas A&M–Commerce Lions football</span> College football program

The Texas A&M–Commerce Lions football team is the college football program representing Texas A&M University–Commerce. The school competes in the Southland Conference (SLC) in Division I FCS of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Prior to joining the Southland, they competed in the Lone Star Conference of Division II. The A&M–Commerce football team plays its home games at Ernest Hawkins Field at Memorial Stadium on the university campus in Commerce, Texas. On Dec. 16, 2017, A&M-Commerce won its first NCAA Division II national championship, by defeating West Florida, 37-27, in Kansas City. The Lions recorded a perfect record in 1934, won the NAIA National Championship in 1972, and have amassed a total of 24 LSC conference championships since joining as a charter member in 1931. On September 28, 2021, the university accepted an invitation from the Southland Conference, moving the university's athletics programs up to the NCAA Division I level. This ended a 90-year affiliation with the Lone Star Conference, as A&M-Commerce was the last founding member remaining. The football team will compete at the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision level beginning in the 2022 season.

The Texas A&M–Commerce Lions women's volleyball team is the women's intercollegiate volleyball program representing Texas A&M University–Commerce. The school competes in the Southland Conference (SLC) in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). For the first 44 years of existence, they competed in the Lone Star Conference of Division II. The A&M–Commerce women's volleyball team plays its home games at the University Field House on the university campus in Commerce, Texas. Previous to his time as head coach, he was the defensive coordinator for his father and former West Texas A&M University head coach, Don Carthel, from 2006 to 2012. Ryan Crouser is an American shot putter and discus thrower. He is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and Olympic record holder. Crouser is the current world record holder in the shot put, both indoor and outdoor. On May 27, 2023, Crouser reset his outdoor world record with a throw of 23.56m bettering his previous world record by 7.48 inches/19 cm. In 2021, at the U.S. Olympic Trials he threw 23.37 m to break Randy Barnes's 31-year-old record of 23.12 m by almost 10 inches (25 cm). Crouser is also a two-time World Champion and the World Championship Record holder in the shot put 23.51m, just 2+12 in off his world record.

Anderson Peters is a Grenadian javelin thrower and the 2019 and 2022 world champion in the event. He is a multiple time CARIFTA Games champion at the discipline and in 2016 earned a bronze medal at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, setting a new Grenadian national record and OECS record at the same time.

Kellon Alexis is a Grenadian athlete who specializes in throwing events. In 2014 he set a National Record in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 54.22 m. He also set a record in the men's Weight throw with a distance of 17.06m.

Colleen Felix is a Grenadian former track and field athlete who competed in the heptathlon. In 2009, she set the national record in that event. She is also a former national record holder in the Javelin Throw with a distance of 47.62m at Arizona State Invitational on 26 March 2011. This record was subsequently broken by Candesha Scott in 2016 at the Carifta Games. After an absence from competition, Colleen returned to competition in 2017. She took part in the revived Whitsuntide games and then the OECS Track and Field Championships which were both held at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium in Grenada.

Maggie Ewen is an American shot putter. Maggie Ewen earned bronze medal when she threw the discus 59.00 m in Toronto at 2018 NACAC Championships, placed fourth in the shot put at 2019 World Athletics Championships and competed in the women's hammer throw at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics. Ewen set collegiate outdoor records in shot put and hammer.

Janeah Stewart is a student-athlete on the University of Mississippi women's track and field team. The four event thrower from Illinois, was awarded All-American status her first three years of college. Janeah Stewart's winning weight throw of 23.18m/76-0.75 broke the SEC meet record that had stood since 2004 and moved her up to No. 1 in the nation this year and No. 6 in NCAA history.

Gamali Felix is a Grenadian athlete who competes primarily in the Sprints. While attending the Grenada Boys Secondary School he became the under 16 boys Record holder in the Long Jump as well as the under 18 boys Record holder in the Triple Jump. He secured a Silver medal representing Grenada at the 2016 Carifta games with a jump of 14.55m.
