Juno Maria Petra Blom (born 8 October 1968) [1] is a Swedish civil servant and former politician (of the Liberals) who has served as Ombudsman for Children in Sweden since 1 March 2024. [2]
Blom became a member of the Liberals in 2017 and was elected Member of the Riksdag in the 2018 Swedish general election [3] ,serving until her appointment as Ombudsman for Children in Sweden in 2024,representing the constituency of Östergötland County. She was the party secretary of the Liberals from June 2019 to April 2022 during the leadership of Nyamko Sabuni. [4]
For twelve years prior to her entrance in the Riksdag,Blom advocated against honor violence and honor oppresition in the regional council for Östergötland county. [5]
Blom was during her adolescent years a promising golf player among the Norrköping Golfclub. [6]
Blom was awarded the Pela och Fadime (Pela och Fadime-utmärkelsen) award in 2018 for her fight against honor violence and oppression. [7]

The Ombudsman for Children in Sweden is a Swedish government agency organized under the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs tasked with public advocacy and the dissemination of information about the rights and needs of children and young people. The Ombudsman should represent children regarding their rights and interests on the basis of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The Ombudsman has legal authority to request information and to summon representatives from the municipalities,counties and other authorities to talks,but hold no regulatory powers. There's no government mandate to focus or issue an opinion on individual cases. However,the Ombudsman has a legal duty of notification,meaning they are required by law to report to the local social services,whenever they become aware of an abused child.
Pela Atroshi was a 19-year-old Kurd from Farsta,Sweden. She was murdered in an honor killing by family members after being taken from Sweden to Duhok in Kurdistan. She was deemed to have brought shame on the family by moving out of the family home and trying to achieve some independence.
General elections were held in Sweden on 11 September 2022 to elect the 349 members of the Riksdag who in turn elected the Prime Minister of Sweden. Under the constitution,regional and municipal elections were also held on the same day. The preliminary results presented on 15 September showed the government parties lost their majority,which were confirmed by the final results published on 17 September. After a month of negotiations following the elections that led to the TidöAgreement among the right-wing bloc,Moderate Party (M) leader Ulf Kristersson was elected prime minister on 17 October. A government crisis began on 21 June 2021 in Sweden after the Riksdag ousted Prime Minister Stefan Löfven with a no-confidence vote. This was the first time in Swedish history a Prime Minister was ousted by a no-confidence vote. After winning the 2014 Swedish general election,the Löfven II Cabinet's government budget was rejected by the Riksdag,causing a government crisis that lasted for nearly a month. The 2021 government crisis was the second government crisis suffered by a Löfven cabinet. The vote was called on 17 June 2021 by the Sweden Democrats after the Swedish Left Party withdrew support for Löfven over rent control reform,which is an important issue for many voters.
Honor-related violence in Sweden first received public attention in Sweden due to the honor killings of Sara Abed Ali in 1996,Pela Atroshi in 1999 and Fadime Sahindal in 2002. Honor related violence includes forced marriage,female genital mutilation,and other forms of coercion. According to the Swedish Agency for Youth and Civil Society in 2009,about 70 thousand women and men reported pressure to marry against their will. In 2019,the Swedish Police Authority started to specifically track honor-related crimes,and by November 2021,4500 suspected honor-related crimes had been reported.
