Carl-Oskar Simon Bohlin (born 8 January 1986) is a Swedish politician who has served as Minister for Civil Defence in the cabinet of Ulf Kristersson since 2022. [1] [2] He is a member of the Moderate Party.

Early life and education

Bohlin is the son of Magnus Bohlin, professor emeritus at Dalarna University, and Ingrid Lindberg Bohlin. He went to junior high school in the Jakobsgårdarna area in Borlänge and then at Falu Frigymnasium in Falun. [3]

He studied law at Uppsala University between 2007 and 2012, but does not have a candidate degree in law. [4]

Political career

Bohlin got involved early in municipal politics in Borlänge and was elected to the municipality's children's and school board at the age of 18. In February 2005, Bohlin was elected chairman of the Moderate Youth League in Dalarna. [5]

He was elected to the Riksdag in the 2010 general election. [6] He was a candidate for the European Parliament in the 2014 European Parliament but was not elected.

Minister for Civil Defence

Following 2022 general election, Bohlin was appointed Minister for Civil Defence (the first since 1947) and cabinet minister in the Ministry of Defence in the cabinet of Ulf Kristersson. The ministerial portfolio also includes responsibility for crisis management and civil protection.

He is married to Sara Kristoffersson (b. 1986) and has two children. [7]

General elections were held in Sweden on 11 September 2022 to elect the 349 members of the Riksdag who in turn elected the Prime Minister of Sweden. Under the constitution, regional and municipal elections were also held on the same day. The preliminary results presented on 15 September showed the government parties lost their majority, which were confirmed by the final results published on 17 September. After a month of negotiations following the elections that led to the Tidö Agreement among the right-wing bloc, Moderate Party (M) leader Ulf Kristersson was elected prime minister on 17 October. The Kristersson cabinet is a minority government of the Moderates, Christian Democrats (KD) and Liberals (L) that relies on confidence and supply from the Sweden Democrats (SD).

The 2022 Swedish general election was held on 11 September to determine the 349 seats of Sweden's parliament, the Riksdag, for the term lasting until 2026. The agreement paved the way to the Kristersson cabinet, a minority government of Ulf Kristersson's Moderate Party, the Christian Democrats, and Liberals that relies on confidence and supply from the Sweden Democrats (SD), the first time the party is holding direct influence on government policy.
