Kaantaye Kaantaye is Bengali suspense-thriller web-series directed by Joydeep Mukherjee and produced by Shyamsundar De. [1] [2] It is an adaptation of Narayan Sanyal's P. K. Basu series novel Sonar Kaanta, which is actually inspired by The Mousetrap of Agatha Christie. [3] This is the second time P. K. Basu series has been adapted for the screen, the first time being in 1974 when Tarun Majumdar made Jadi Jantem featuring Uttam Kumar as the protagonist. [4]

Casting

A movie adaption of the same story was announced in 2018, starring Ranjit Mullick as PK Basu. The rest of the cast included Rachel White. [7] The film never released. In 2022, ZEE5 announced that they were working on a web series around the same story with Saswata Chatterjee as the protagonist. Rachel White was announced to be a part of the cast of the series as well. [8]

Marketing

The teaser of Kaantaye Kaantaye was released on 25 July 2024. [9] The trailer was released on 31 July. [10]

Reception

Kaantaye Kaantaye received mixed reviews. The Times of India gave it 3.5 stars out of 5 calling it a " binge-worthy watch". [11] Subhash K. Jha writing for Times Now also gave it a thumbs up, commenting, "Apart from some good performances, Kaantaye Kaantaye plays some ear-soothing songs in the background about grief, loss and hope." [12]

Scroll.in on the other hand was critical about the series and called it "An overstretched whodunit". [13] HT Media too gave it a 2 out of 5 and termed the show a missable. [14]

He earned numerous accolades, including Uttam Kumar Awards, BFJA Awards and Star Jalsha Entertainment Awards. Chakraborty has a significant following in West Bengal, Assam and other adjacent states in India and Bangladesh. He is a member of All India Trinamool Congress. He contested 2016 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election from Borjora Constituency. He won the General election 2021 from Chandipur constituency by a margin of 14000 votes. He was sworn in as Member of Legislative Assembly on 2 May 2021.

<i>Proloy</i> (film) 2013 Indian Bengali-language film

Proloy is a 2013 Indian Bengali language socio-political action-crime thriller film co-written and directed by Raj Chakraborty, produced by Shree Venkatesh Films, starring Parambrata Chatterjee, Paran Bandopadhyay, Saswata Chatterjee, Rudranil Ghosh, Supriyo Dutta and Mimi Chakraborty in lead roles. This movie is inspired on the life of Barun Biswas, a social activist and teacher. The film's music is by Indraadip Dasgupta in his second collaboration with Banerjee, with 2 additional tracks by Nilesh Dasgupta. The film was critically and commercially well received and the performances along with the direction was praised. Due to multiple creative differences, this was Sonali Banerjee's last film with Shree Venkatesh Films. Sonali Banerjee named the film Roshni after her sister who was raped and killed and said that the movie was a tribute to her. Throughout the years, the film has gained a cult status and is often regarded as Raj Chakraborty's best film.

Jamai 420 is a Bengali language comedy-drama film written and directed by Rabi Kinnagi, who was assisted by Pathikrit Basu. The film stars an ensemble cast, consisting of Soham Chakraborty, Hiran Chatterjee, Ankush Hazra, Payel Sarkar, Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan in lead roles while Kharaj Mukherjee, Biswanath Basu, Shantilal Mukherjee and Manasi Sinha appear in pivotal roles. The film is produced jointly by Shrikant Mohta, Mahendra Soni and Nispal Singh under Shree Venkatesh Films and Surinder Films respectively. The film was released on 22 May 2015 with mostly negative reviews.

<i>Katmundu</i> 2015 Indian film

Katmundu is a 2015 Indian Bengali comedy romantic thriller film directed by Raj Chakraborty. The film features Soham Chakraborty, Abir Chatterjee, Rudranil Ghosh, Srabanti Chatterjee, Mimi Chakraborty and Saswata Chatterjee in the lead roles. The film is produced by Shyam Sundar Dey under GreenTouch Entertainment. The film was released on 16 October 2015. The story, penned down by Padmanava Dasgupta, is about three software engineers who undertake a journey to Nepal to escape the stress of a 9-to-5 job and how their life takes an unexpected turn after meeting three girls on their way, forms the crux of the story.

<i>Double Feluda</i> 2016 film directed by Sandip Ray

Double Feluda is a 2016 Bengali language crime thriller detective film, based on the Bengali sleuth Feluda, created by the acclaimed and renowned Oscar-winning director Satyajit Ray. It is the 19th film in the Feluda series. Directed by his son Sandip Ray, the film marks the comeback of both Sabyasachi Chakraborty and Saheb Bhattacharya, with the former returning to the eponymous role of Feluda and the latter playing his sidekick. This is a sequel of Royal Bengal Rahashya (2011). The film was released on 16 December 2016 to mark the 50th anniversary of the iconic creation. The film is based on two Feluda stories - Samaddarer Chabi and Golokdham Rahasya.

P. K. Basu is a fictional detective character created by Bengali writer Narayan Sanyal. These detective stories are popularly known as the Kanta (Thorn) series. Some of the stories were inspired by the novels of Erle Stanley Gardner and Agatha Christie.

<i>Joyee</i> Indian Bengali television series

Joyee is a Bengali television soap opera that premiered on 9 October 2017. It aired on Zee Bangla. It was produced by Tent Cinema and it starred Debadrita Basu and Dibyojyoti Dutta. Netaji is a Bengali biographical soap opera on the life of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose that premiered on 14 January 2019 and aired on Bengali GEC Zee Bangla. Based majorly on Udyata Kharga Subhash by Achintya Kumar Sengupta and produced by Surinder Films, the series stars Abhishek Bose in the eponymous role, with Basabdatta Chatterjee, marking her comeback on television, Dhruvajyoti Sarkar, Kaushik Chakraborty, Sriparna Roy, Debopriyo Sarkar, Sohan Bandopadhyay, Fahim Mirza appearing in other recurring roles. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the shooting of the series was stalled. It was rumoured that along with Karunamoyee Rani Rashmoni, this series will be axed the channel. Putting rest to such rumours, the shooting started from June 11 and new episodes started to air from June 15, 2020. The show went off air on 1st August 2020.

Tiki-Taka, previously titled as Khelechi Ajgubi, is a 2020 Indian ZEE5 original Bengali language sports drama situational comedy film directed and produced by Parambrata Chattopadhyay. The film stars African national Emona Enabulu in the lead role while director Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Ritabhari Chakraborty and Saswata Chatterjee play supporting roles in the film. The film was set against the backdrop of West Bengal and other parts of North-East India. The film was premiered via ZEE5 on 11 September 2020 and opened to positive reviews.

Produced by Nispal Singh, Soham Chakraborty and Bajrang Lal Churiwala under the banners of Surinder Films, Soham's Entertainment and Creative Solutions Pvt Ltd respectively, the film is based on Debarati Mukhopadhyay's short story Dolgobindo Babur Chashmah. It stars Mithun Chakraborty in the titular role, alongside an ensemble cast consisting of Soham Chakraborty, Debashree Roy, Rajatava Dutta, Anirban Chakraborty, Saswata Chatterjee, Kaushik Sen, Sauraseni Maitra and Ayush Das.
