Kailasam Raghavendra Rao, is an Indian entrepreneur from Chennai and the founder of Orchid Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Limited, a former top 500 Indian company on D and B listing, in terms of market capitalization. Bio

Raghavendra Rao was born in 1958 in Chennai, in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. [3] His graduate studies were in Commerce which he completed in 1977 from Andhra University and continued his studies to obtain master's degree in management from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in 1979. [3] [4] [5]

Rao began his career in 1979 as the Financial Controller at Pure Ice Creams [4] [5] and later, moved to Ashok Leyland in 1981. [4] [5] A further move to Standard Medicals and Pharmaceuticals Limited, Hyderabad [4] [5] exposed him to the pharmaceutical industry. During these years, Rao obtained the cost accounting qualification of ICWAI of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India and Associateship Company Secretary (ACS). [3] The next shift was to Muscat, Oman in 1982, where he worked for Al Buraim Group [4] [5] and returned to India in 1992 where he established his own venture, Orchid Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Limited, a pharmaceutical company, which over the years, grew into one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in India. Raghavendra Rao is a recipient of the India Young Business Achiever Award in 1997 and the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1999. [3] [5] In 2011, the Government of India included Rao in the list of Republic Day honours for the award of Padma Shri. [2] He is a Director at Orchid Laboratories Limited, Orchid Nutricare Limited, UK, BEXEL Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Al Buraimi Group. [5]

Nuthakki Bhanu Prasad (1928-2013) was an Indian chemical engineer, bureaucrat and a former chairman of the Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC). He is credited with the design of the first Magnesium Plant in India in 1994 and was involved with the commissioning of Apsara research reactor, the first Indian atomic reactor. The Government of India honoured him in 1960, with the award of Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award for his services to the nation.

Vithalrao Eknath Rao Vikhe Patil was an Indian industrialist, the founder of the first sugar factory in the cooperative sector in India at Loni, in Maharashtra and the founder of a group of industries and institutions composed of Institute of Business Management and Rural Development, Padmashri Dr. Vithalrao Vikhe Patil Foundation's Medical College and Hospital and Padmashri Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Limited, operating under Padmashree Dr. Vithalrao Foundation. The Government of India honoured him in 1961,with the award of Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award for his services to the nation. His son, Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, was a recipient of Padma Bhushan, a member of parliament and a former minister.

Banda Vasudev Rao was an Indian agriculturalist and poultry farmer, considered by many as the father of poultry farming in India. He was the founder chairman of the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) and was a 2004 inductee of the International Poultry Hall of Fame of the World Poultry Science Association. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian award of Padma Shri in 1990.When he died, the combined fortune of his family was $325 million(1300 crore).His company directly employed around 5000 employees by 1996.

Alla Venkata Rama Rao is an Indian inventor and chemist, known for his pioneering researches in the field of drug technology. He is the founder of the A. V. Rama Rao Research Foundation, a non governmental organization promoting research and doctoral studies in chemistry and Avra Laboratories, an organization dealing in intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients, used in therapeutics. An elected fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Sciences, India, and Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), Rama Rao is a recipient of several awards such as TWAS Technology Award, VASVIK Industrial Research Award and Om Prakash Bhasin Award. The Government of India awarded him Padma Shri in 1991 and Padma Bhushan in 2016.

Damal Kandalai Srinivasan is an Indian social worker, business person, philanthropist and the co-founder of Hindu Mission Hospital, Chennai. He is also the secretary of Valluvar Gurukulam, an educational institution founded in 1940 for the children of the refugees from Burma, which has since grown to the present-day Valluvar Gurukulam Higher Secondary School. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2016, for his contributions to society.
