Harshavardhan Neotia (born 19 July 1961) is the chairman of the Ambuja Neotia Group, a conglomerate headquartered in Kolkata. [1]

Life and career

Harshavardhan Neotia was born and brought up in Kolkata in a Marwari family. [2] He attended La Martiniere Calcutta for Boys and graduated in Commerce from St. Xavier's College, Kolkata. [3] He has completed HBS's Executive Education Programme - Owner President Management Program (OPM) from Harvard Business School. [4]

He is the founder of one of the first joint sector companies in India, “Bengal Ambuja Housing Development Limited” in partnership with the Government of West Bengal. [5] The idea behind this joint sector venture was to promote social housing development in urban India. [6] Harshavardhana Neotia's maiden project, “Udayan” was declared a ‘Model Housing Project’ by the union government. [7]

He is a member of the board of governors' of IIM Calcutta. [3] His company Ambuja Neotia Group has developed real estate projects in West Bengal including Udayan~The Condoville, Ujjwala~The Condoville, Upohar~The Condoville, Ecospace Business Park, Ecostation, Taj City Centre Kolkata, Taj Chia Kutir, Raajkutir IHCL SeleQtions, Utalika Luxury, City Centre Malls in Salt Lake, New Town, Siliguri, Haldia, Raipur and Patna, Raichak on Ganges and AltAir Boutique Hotel.[ citation needed ]

Awards

He was conferred the Padmashri in the year 1999 for his initiative in the field of social housing. [7] He has been awarded with Young Presidents' Organization YPO Legacy of Honor Award and works as the Honorary Consul of Israel in West Bengal. [8]

Calcutta Club is an elite social club located on Lower Circular Road in Kolkata, India. It was established in 1907 and the first president of the club was the Maharajah of Cooch Behar, Sir Nripendra Narayan. The Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII of Great Britain, was among the first royal guests to visit the club when he was invited to a lunch on 28 December 1921. First prime minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru visited the club in 1961. Suresh Kumar Neotia was an Indian industrialist, entrepreneur, art collector, philanthropist and the co-founder of Ambuja Cements and associated companies. He was the chairman of the Group till 2009 when he relinquished the position in favor of his co-founder, Narotam Sekhsaria, and remained as the Chairman Emeritus of the Group until his death. He was a recipient of Harvard Business School - Economic Times Award and was involved in many social activities which included the promotion of cultural organizations such as Anamika Kala Sangam and Padatik.
