Kandanad West Diocese is one of the 30 dioceses of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church
In 1876 Malankara Orthodox Church was divided as 7 Dioceses by Mulanthuruthy Synod. Among that seven, one diocese was Kandanad Diocese, at that time the parishes of Kandanad Diocese were spread across Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam District. The first Metropolitan of this diocese was Paulose mar Ivanios (murimattathil bava), who later became First Catholicos of Malankara Orthodox Church, and belongs to Kolenchery St. Peter's and St. Paul's orthodox church. Followed by him this diocese was governed by the following Metropolitans.
From 1991 this diocese is under the auspicious leadership of Mathews Mar Severios. In 2002 this Diocese divided into Two Kandanad (E) and Kandanad (W).
Today including parish churches and catholicate centers there are 41 worship centers in this diocese. There are 40 priests including corepiscopas offering their dedicated services in this Diocese. The diocesan headquarters is now situated at Prasadam centre, kolenchery. All spiritual organisations are very active in this diocese. Besides the spiritual activities, several charitable activities are also functioning under this diocese by the leadership of Mathews Mar Severios. The charitable institutions are organized and administered by Mar Pachomios charitable society and Pratheebha charitable trust.
The Kandanad West Diocese has initiated several charitable projects.
Located at Karimpana, Koothattukulam, Pratheekha Bhavan (The House of Hope) is the rehabilitation home for 50 orphan women who are mentally and physically challenged.
Prasanthi Bhavan (The House of Comfort) is designed to provide comfort to terminally ill patients who have no place to go. Situated at Kadayiruppu, this institution aims at providing service facilities for eighty poor patients who need long-term treatment and protection.
Prathyasa Bhavn (The House of Expectation) taking care of 50 orphan boys who are mentally and physically challenged. Prathyasa Bhavan is located at South Piramadaom, Pampakkuda.
Prathibha Bhavan is a job orientation centre for unemployed located at Kunnackal, Muvattupuzha. The project aims at training unemployed youths for self-employment through various small scale industries. Income from the sale of products are utilised for the expenses of charitable projects of the diocese. Products of the project are Prathibha Curry Powder, Prathibha Garments, Prathibha Candles, Prathibha Umbrellas and Prathibha Soaps.

Promodam (Make people Happy) is a free food service which aims at distributing daily free lunch to inpatients in 11 government hospitals at Piravam, Muvattupuzha, Koothattukulam, Vadavucode, Kadayiruppu, Valakam, Ramamanagalam, Pampakkuda, Thodupuzha, Mulanthuruthy and Pandappilly.

The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (MOSC) also known as the Indian Orthodox Church (IOC) or simply as the Malankara Church, is an autocephalous Oriental Orthodox Church headquartered in Devalokam, near Kottayam, India. It serves India's Saint Thomas Christian population. According to tradition, these communities originated in the missions of Thomas the Apostle in the 1st century. It employs the Malankara Rite, an Indian form of the West Syriac liturgical rite.
Gregorios of Parumala, also known as Parumala Thirumeni and Geevarghese Mar Gregorios, was a Metropolitan of the Malankara Church. Parumala Thirumeni became the first person of Indian origin to be canonised as saint. In 1947, the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church declared Mar Gregorios as a saint, making him the first saint from India canonized by that church. In November 1987, the Syriac Orthodox Church canonized him as a saint.
Baselios Marthoma Didymus I born C. T. Thomas was the primate of the Malankara Orthodox Church from 2005 to 2010. He was the 7th Catholicos of the East since the Catholicate of the East was established India and the 20th Malankara Metropolitan. He was the 7th Catholicos of East.
The Jacobite Syrian Christian Church, or the Syriac Orthodox Church in India, is a Maphrianate of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch based in Kerala, India and part of the Oriental Orthodox Church. It recognizes the Syriac Orthodox patriarch of Antioch and All the East as supreme head of the church. It functions autonomously within the church as an Archdiocese, administered by the Metropolitan Trustee, under the authority of the Maphrian of India, Baselios Thomas I. Following schism with the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, it is currently the only church in Malankara that is under the administrative supervision of Syriac Orthodox Church. The church employs the West Syriac Rite Liturgy of Saint James.
Baselios Paulose I or Murimattathil Bava was the first Catholicos of the East after its reinstatement in India. The First Catholicos of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church was in power only for seven months and eighteen days. He was 76 years old when he became the Catholiocs and died the following year.
Kottoor Church or Kottoor St. George Orthodox Syrian Church is an ancient chapel of Kolenchery Church. It is situated 0.5 km south of Kolenchery town, towards Karukappilly road and Muvattupuzha river. This Church is considered as the oldest of all structures founded in Kerala, India after Saint George. Kottoor church is believed to be the second oldest Christian structure constructed in Ernakulam District after Kottakavu Church at Paravoor.
Baselios Augen I was the 17th Malankara Metropolitan, the fourth Catholicos of the East in the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, and the first Catholicos of India in the Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church. He was the first Catholicos consecrated in a reunified Malankara Church, by the Patriarch of Antioch in 1964 but his tenure saw a second split in the Holy Church.
