Adoor Kadampanad Diocese is one of 30 dioceses of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. The diocese was created on August 15, 2010. Zacharias Aprem is the current Metropolitan. The head office is located in Mar Ephipanios center, Sreyas Aramana, Kannamkode, Adoor.

History

Adoor Kadampanad Diocese was created on 15 September 2010. H.G. Dr.Zacharias Mar Aprem serves as its first Metropolitan. [1] The diocese was created mainly by the partition of Kollam Diocese. Some parishes of Thiruvananthapuram, Mavelikkara, Chengannur, and Thumpamon dioceses added to this diocese. [1] [2]

Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Orthodox Church in Kerala, India

The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (MOSC) also known as the Indian Orthodox Church (IOC) or simply as the Malankara Church, is an autocephalous Oriental Orthodox church headquartered in Devalokam, near Kottayam, India. The church serves India's Saint Thomas Christian population. According to tradition, these communities originated in the missions of Thomas the Apostle in the 1st century. The Jacobite Syrian Christian Church (JSCC), or the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church in India also known as Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, the Jacobite Syrian Church, and the Syriac Orthodox Church in India, is a catholicate based in Kerala, India, of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch and part of the Oriental Orthodox Church. It recognizes the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East as supreme head of the church. It functions autonomously within the church, administered by the Metropolitan Trustee, under the authority of the Maphrian of India, Baselios Thomas I. Following schism with the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, is currently the only church in Malankara that is directly under a Syriac Christian Antiochian hierarchy, claiming continuity to the 1665 schism. The church employs the West Syriac Rite Liturgy of Saint James.

St. Thomas Cathedral, Kannamcode Church in Adoor, India

Kannamcode Cathedral or Kannamcode St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral is one of the oldest churches in Central Travancore. The church belongs to the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church under 'Adoor-Kadampanad' diocese. Kannamcode Cathedral is situated in Adoor, a town in Pathanamthitta district of the Indian state of Kerala. Adoor has a large population of Syrian Christians. Christianity in this locality has a tradition of more than a millennium and a half years, beginning from the village of Kadampanad. St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral, Kannamcode, a very old Church in central Travancore, has a history of approximately 900 years, belonging to the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church under 'Adoor-Kadampanad' diocese. Kannamcode. At Kadampanad the age of early Christian community dates back to 4th century A.D about two centuries later than the arrival of St. Thomas on the Kerala coast. Prior to the building of this church, the Christian community had to depend on near-by churches - Thumpamon Orthodox Church and third Kannamcode Cathedral to full fill their Christian services and spiritual needs. The people had to walk quite a bit of distance to attend church services and return to their village and it appeared to be tedious. Upon getting necessary permission and support from the local Hindu kings of Kayankulam, at last, a church came into being then called Veerappallil Yakoba Palli", later renamed as Kannamcode St. Thomas Orthodox Church. The same church is presently known as Kannamcode St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral.

H.H Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan, became the Metropolitan of Idukki Diocese in 2021. H.G Joshua Mar Nicodimos is serving as the assistant metropolitan of the diocese.

Kuriakose Mar Clemis is the Metropoliton of the diocese. The head office is located in St. Basil Aramana, Pathanamthitta.Thumpamon Diocese name had been opted from "Thumpamon pally" where St.Gregorious of Parumala lived this life and done the administration of Thumpamon diocese.

Mavelikara Orthodox Diocese

Mavelikkara Diocese is one of the 30 dioceses of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. The diocese was created on 10 August 2002. The diocese is directly under the Malankara Metropolitan Baselios Marthoma Mathews III. Alexios Mar Eusebius is serving as the Asst. Metropolitan of the Mavelikara Diocese. The head office is located in TheoBhavan Aramana, Thazhakkara, Mavelikkara.
