The Diocese of Kochi is a diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. The diocese was created after the Mulanthuruthy Synod in 1876. Yakob Mar Irenios is the Metropoliton of the diocese. [1] The head office is located in Zion Seminary, Korratti East, Chalakkudi. [2]

History

Kochi is one of seven dioceses created after the Mulanthuruthi Christian association (synod) conducted under the leadership of Ignatios Pathros III, Patriarch of Antioch in 1876. [2] Others are Kottayam, Kandanadu, Angamali, Niranam, Kollam, Thumpamon. [2] The diocese was created with 21 parishes in Kochi State and British Malabar. Semavun Mar Dionysius was the first Metropolitan. [2] Dionysious V, Dionysious VI, Poulose Mar Athanasios, Poulose Mar Severios, Daniel Mar Pilexinos, Yuhanon Mar Severios, Yakob Mar Policurpos etc. led the diocese in different times. [3] Baselios Geevarghese I, Baselios Augen I, Baselios Mar Thoma Mathews I also led the diocese. [2] Maliankara, Paloor, Kokamangalam, Kottakayal, churches founded by St. Thomas is situated in this diocese. Dionysious II, Dionysius V, Parumala Thirumeni came from this diocese. [2] Later, the diocese divided into the Malabar and Kunnamkulam dioceses. The tombs of Yuhanon Mar Severios, Yakob Mar Policurpos are in the Zion Aramana. In the time of 1992, there were 38 parishes and eight chapels. [2] [4]

Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church

The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (MOSC) also known as the Indian Orthodox Church (IOC) or simply as the Malankara Church, is an autocephalous Oriental Orthodox church headquartered in Devalokam, near Kottayam, India. The Jacobite Syrian Christian Church (JSCC), also known as the Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, the Jacobite Syrian Church, and the Syriac Orthodox Church in India, is an autonomous Oriental Orthodox church based in Kerala, India, and is an integral branch of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch. It recognizes the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East as supreme head of the church. It functions as a largely autonomous unit within the church, under the authority of the Catholicos of India, Baselios Thomas I. It is currently the only church in Malankara that has a direct relationship with the Syriac Christians of Antioch, which has continued since the schism of 1665 and employs the West Syriac Liturgy of Saint James.

Idukki Diocese is a diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. The diocese was formed in 1982 with the parishes in Idukki district in Kerala. The Idukki Diocesan metropolitan's bishop house is Gathsemon Aramana which is situated at Chakkupallam. H.H. Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, the present Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan is also serving as the Metropolitan of Idukki Diocese since 2021. H.G. Dr. Joshua Mar Nicodimos is serving as the assistant metropolitan of the diocese.

Kollam Orthodox Diocese

The Kollam Orthodox Diocese, one of the 30 dioceses of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, was created after the Mulanthuruthy Synod in 1876. Zachariah Mar Anthonios is the metropolitan bishop of the diocese, whose head office is in Bishop House, Cross Junction, Kadappakada, Kollam, Kerala, India.

Kottayam Diocese is one of the 30 dioceses of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. The diocese was created in Mulanthuruthy Synod in 1876.

Thumpamon Orthodox Diocese

Thumpamon Diocese is one of the 30 dioceses of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. The diocese was created after the Mulanthuruthy Synod in 1876. Now, H.G. Kuriakose Mar Clemis is the Metropoliton of the diocese. The head office is located in St. Basil Aramana, Pathanamthitta.Thumpamon Diocese name had been opted from "Thumpamon pally" where St.Gregorious of Parumala lived this life and done the administration of Thumpamon diocese.

Kottayam Central Orthodox Diocese

Kottayam Central Diocese is one of the 30 dioceses of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. The diocese was created in 1982. This diocese is in the direct control of Catholicos of the East .The current Metropolitan of the diocese is the Malankara Metropolitan H.H Baselios Marthoma Mathews 3. The head office is located in Devalokam Aramana, Kottayam.

Mavelikara Orthodox Diocese

Mavelikkara Diocese is one of the 30 dioceses of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. The diocese was created on 10 August 2002.The Diocese is directly under the Malankara Metropolitan H.H Baselios Marthoma Mathews 3. H.G Alexios Mar Eusebius is serving as the Asst. Metropolitan of the Mavelikara Diocese. The head office is located in TheoBhavan Aramana, Thazhakkara, Mavelikkara.
