Sulthan Batheri Diocese is one of the 30 dioceses of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. The diocese was created in 1986. Abraham mar Ephipanios is the Metropolitan of the diocese. The head office is located in Nirmalagiri Aramana, Poomala, Sulthan Bathery, Wayanad [1]
This diocese was formed in 1986 by organizing churches in Wayand, Kannur and Nilagiri district. It was formerly the part of Malabar Diocese. In the beginning, the diocese was directly under the control of the then Malankara Metropolitan H.H Baselios Marthoma Mathews 1. [2] Fr.Mathai Nooranal became the administrator. In 1991 H.G.Kuriakose mar Clemis Metropolitan became the metropolitan of Diocese. The Headquarters of the dioceses is situated near Kozhikodu- Mysore national Highway. It is 300 m away from Sulthan Bathery town. In 2009,H.G. Vattamparambil Dr. Abraham mar Ephipanios Metropolitan became the metropolitan. Now, there are 48 churches under the Diocese. [3]

The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (MOSC) also known as the Indian Orthodox Church (IOC) or simply as the Malankara Church, is an autocephalous Oriental Orthodox church headquartered in Devalokam, near Kottayam, India. The church serves India's Saint Thomas Christian population. According to tradition, these communities originated in the missions of Thomas the Apostle in the 1st century. It employs the Malankara Rite, an Indian form of the West Syriac liturgical rite.
